Hey guys i just bought a 06 evo 9 mr, and i was wondering if you guys knew how you would change the overall gearing? Is it in the trans? Front and rear diffs? Because it revs 3800 at 65mph in 5th gear. And i just finished a full build on it and its just not gonna work for me, with the 2.3 i put in it i need taller gears. The car maxes out at 130ish. Any help would be great. Tia

 

If it is an MR it should be six speed. If you put in a 5Spd then you should have gotten the 4.11 final drive. I don't see how these numbers are right considering that stock 9 goes 153 at 7k in 5th and an 8 reaches 162 at 7k. These would be 83/88mph respectively at 3800rpm.

 

So you are thinking whoever installed the 5 speed may not have put the 4.11 gear ratio in? Because its definitely a 5 speed not a 6.

 

They probably didn't install one but the numbers I quoted are with a stock final drive. The 4.11 is not stock.

 

stock final drive is around to 4.7 I think. sounds more like his car has a 5.0 final drive haha

stock evo 9 5-speed is 3000rpm at ~65mph

 

Stock final drive is a 4.53 I believe, is it possible you got a jdm five speed? I know there final drive his higher.

 

Yup sounds like its either a JDM fifth gear or a different final drive.

 

What is your rev limiter set to? What is the max speed you see with each gear? What size are your tires? I've got an excel doc but im sure you can find a similar calculator online. Given a couple inputs we should be able to figure out if your 5th gear has been changed or it itfs your final drive.
