Wastegate actuator advice needed

Hi mates,

My FPGreen 73hta BB suddenly couldn't boost any more than 7 psi and spooled very-very lazy. Trying to find the problem, I pulled the actuator rod with my hand to check if there was any free play and it just came out of the canister freely. I took off the actuator from my turbo and it just felt apart in my hands in two pieces - the canister and the rod. The rod was fine and had a nut on its end, the one that keeps it together with diaphragm. When I looked inside the canister, I saw that the hole in the center of the diaphragm has become big enough so I could push the rod with the nut on it in place and take it out almost without any force. Looked like the rod has worn out that hole in the diaphragm and popped out of it. I replaced it with a new one FP 18psi, but the new one has broken the same way half a year later. So I had the same problem twice...

Both of them where bought new, never damaged, installed and preloaded to a standart preload, according to the video recomendations on FP site.

Now I need a new actuator, again... But FP 18psi is not listed on their site anymore. So which one would you advice - Turbosmart, Forge, etc...?

Any advices\comment are welcome. Thanks.

Turbosmart looks more quality to me, i am leaning towards it since im in the look for a new actuator also.

My stock turbo is acting the same cant boost more than 5 psi! But i didnt pull my actuator and check it out.

Yes, I like how it looks. But I have found an info that it may be not as durable as it looks like. The aluminium locking collar tend to strip\wear out the threads from the first opening. Wanted to hear some more info...

Turbosmart is the business. I upgraded 30,000 miles ago from the FP 18#. The engineering is top class and ive had no issues with removing the top and changing springs multiple times. Get it. You wont look back.

If you email fp they might have some 25 psi actuators

I emailed them. waiting for an answer.

I believe 25psi would be too much, as I am running 25psi peak boost, tapering to stable 22-23 till redline on my 2.3l. More than that I would like to be able to control lower boost levels. So 18 psi was my choice.

Do you have the "Billet Adjustable Turbo Actuator Mitsubishi EVO 9" or "Mitsubishi EVO 9 Green Red TD05HR TD06SL2 TD06H" one?

I would say try the FP 25# actuator. That is what I will be getting for my CBRD 3-B eventually and I plan to be running about 23-25# peak. I had already purchased one but I let a sneaky-sneaky Ratsbud talk me out of mine.

well to get a better idea of whats going on: Boost/peak boost setup, EBCS/MBC settings, tune(?) and if a boost leak was performed/found.

25-26psi peak boost, tapering to stable 22-23 till redline, using 3-port solenoid, well tuned stock ECU, 2.3l engine, no boost leaks, no problems at all. FP actuator bit the dust.
