Wow Fireescape. That is some interesting details on this turbo. I find it odd that FP does not think there is a problem with the high amount of oil leaking from this turbo.

FP should own up and repay you for your expenses and conversion on this turbo. This is terrible customer service IMO.

The "it's a secret" thing is a joke because it's been explained why we're not selling them at the moment multiple times. There are parts we don't have and aren't going to have for a while and instead of back ordering a ton of turbo and dealing with the daily "where's my turbo calls" we decided not to sell them at the moment till the parts become available again.

As for the leaking turbo again it's been addressed time and time again here and on our own Facebook page, it is possible to damage the turbo and have it leak more than usual. Unlike traditional BB or JB turbos when oversped tend to damage themselves in more catastrophic way ours damages the gas control rings and wear .001-.0002 off the bore and tend to want to leak. Which at the end of the day is a cheap and easy fix for both of us. So there's every chance in the world that at some point your turbo exceeded it's maximum shaft speed and took a little material out of the compressor side gas control ring and it's a leaker, also maybe we built a bad one? It's possible it happens but until we see it and tear it apart and inspect we won't know.

I understand that you live a world away, and I wish I had a better answer for you, but we can't fix a turbo over the internet, it requires us to have hands on which requires the turbo being shipped her sometimes, depending on location, can get expensive. There's no way around this until someone develops teleportation technology and we can warp turbochargers back and forth.

At the end of the day I'm sorry you had an issue and I wish I would have had a personal opportunity to speak with you before you spent all the money converting it. We always try and work with our international customers as much as possible on shipping costs. If you need anything else please e-mail me at the below e-mail address.

Yeah FP stock frame turbo just too expensive.

Sorry will get crap for this but at this point might as well just go with an ETS or STM T3 kit.

Even their JB Unit I went through a Red and a Black.

Turbo should be able to work with out specials oil imho.

I cant get Brad Penn or special oils around here.

Glad I never spent money on a BB which I thought would be the fix.

I feel I'm beating a dead horse here but will attempt to further the conversation for the sake of other FP BB turbo uses. I'd like to address this statement first

and how it relates to this statement

At this point that's all I can say but it will all become clear soon enough

So now your saying that the reason you've stopped selling BB turbo is because you don't have parts, even though in this very thread your talk about the reason "all becoming clear soon enough ". The reason being that you can't get some parts is pretty exciting and worth waiting for!

You have addressed it time and time again and have consistently talked of crankcase pressure as the cause. Now it's a worn bore, worn by 0.0002 of an inch, is 0.0002" even a measurable amount. My turbo was leaking 3 days after it was installed so I'll dismiss that it wore out. The overspeed issue is interesting. Very few people have turbo RPM meters in their cars so can you give us some guidance as to what combination of engine RPM, boost and flow will cause the turbocharger to overspeed, to cause the RPM limit to be exceeded. What is the maximum RPM for your Ball Bearing turbos, people might need to know this?

There is a way around this, you have a way to have these turbo's checked for material, construction or abuse faults without the expense to the customer of sending their turbo halfway around the planet, your local (Australian) FP distributor! Why not ask customers to return their leaking turbos to your distributor. They might not have the means to check it themselves but we have many businesses in Australia that are very experienced in turbo rebuilds and fault finding. If the problem is a minor as you claim this would not cost you to much surely. I can start you off by taking in my ball bearing cartridge, which is completely intact bar having the compressor wheel removed, which was used on my now installed journal bearing cartridge. Let me know Michael if you want me to do this?

I appreciate the time you have taken to reply to my posts Michael and will wait for your reply to the questions I have asked in this one, hopefully your answers will get us closer to a solution to this issue.

i can confirm, on our evosquad page there have been numerous amounts of members with faults to their Ball Bearing FP turbo's, deeming their resale value literally useless. Everyone always asks for the journal bearing FP's as they know they work.

I find it sad how badly FP has dealt with this whole situation and has completely turned me off buying anything from FP being all the way in Australia incase something were to go wrong and have it thrown in my face when it comes to warranty claims.

Nowadays T3 kit with Precision or Garret turbos dont seem as pricey, and their turbos dont **** out oil on idle.

Fix your **** up FP and deal with situations properly, or you will end up like eagle's reputation.

I'll say this , I sent my turbo to FP for a bb upgrade in April. I was told up front, it's a long wait , we are back ordered on the dbb unit. Just got it 2 weeks ago.

Really??
It has been stated and proven that their BB turbos have an issue when not vented properly.
I had one and it was leaking. I sold it and before it went to the buyer it went to FP. The gas seals weren't even really bad. I can't blame FP for the fact that my ventilation system was causing the issue. It is well documented so if you don't want to do some work and figure out a system that works then I guess you should buy another product.

Here's my experience with FP red BB. initially, i purchased a new ATP GTX3076R kit. was running around 350 whp and stock ventilation setup. got oil blow into ICP right from the start. huge smoke cloud when i accelerate and lift and accelerate again. i sent the turbo back and they sent me a new one. but before installing the new one, i did some research and found that i should improve the crank vent. so i removed the PCV and ran it straight to an open catch can. i also added a smaller restrictor for the oil feed line. i ran a few track events with the new ATP GTX and no issues with oil leak with the mods i did. but i decided the non stock ATP setup was too unreliable for track, and was too laggy for the power level i need.

so i decided to go with stock frame turbo, FP red BB was the best choice that i saw, plus the $200 off for the holiday special made it easy for me to decide. i've had about 10 track events (over 20 track days) with the FP red bb and no issues with oil blow. i also convinced one of my friend to buy an FP red BB, he probably got one of the last one they built. took like 2 months for him to get it. i'll be installing it on his 2.3L in a few weeks.

the only issues i have with FP red BB, is boost creep. unless you want to run 25 psi all the time, you should port the wastegate port. due to my power limit for the class, i have to run the 17 psi up top to keep power down.

I have an FP double ball bearing HTA Green. It was one of the earliest DBB HTA Greens FP released. It runs like a top.

Dyno'd at 475HP/462TQ at 24 PSI on a 2.14L motor. Enormous area under the curve.

Absolutely no problems.

FP has the best warranty and warranty service in the business.

End of story.

Its great that you guys have had no issues, but your missing the fact here, that even with breathing upgrades customers BB units are leaking oil even on idle, Ive seen it with my own eyes, a mate had his turbo sent back to FP for replacement, bolt it up back up and its spitting oil out from the hotside. I dont see the same thing happening with any HKS 7460 or CBRD BB turbos, its obvious that their ball bearing units have had some kind of flaw in design and they are covering it up with "being out of stock" "we will see soon enough" "its a secret" bull crap that is fed to the sheep and fanboys.

And as for FP having the best warranty and service, that is very subjective. What does having run a number at the drags indicate for reliability in terms of the turbo? Sounds like a childs argument, which has nothing to do with the matter at hand.

If a brand new FP dbb turbo leaks oil, then there's definitely a flaw to that particular turbo. But not all FP dbb as a design flaw, since they have been out for couple years and many don't have issues with them. Im by no mean an FP fanboy. I get no special treatment from them. They actually screw me on shipping with the new cast manifold.
