Aem Vs Hks Intake
i would just say and wait for the Apex'i or Injen units... (which may be available now)... I've installed about 11 injen's on various applications and they are always top-notch without an issue... i even have one on my current car too, and it is great, fit-and-function... and the injen units on the 1g and 2g eclipses were amazing... Injen also makes one of the best filters out there... only second to Apex'i in my book... Apex's filters won hands down in many tests, including airflow again the metal filters (like Blitz), and it has top dirt filtering properties... Anyone try the Buschur intake pipe with a Apex'i or Injen filter yet??? that's prolly gonna be my set-up...
My AEM came in today. Maybe some of the pieces have changed, because I had it test fitted on
the car in about 20 min. I kid you not.
Of course I had the old stuff already off.
Everything done except tightening the clamps.
I had heard that one hard part was getting on the hose coupling that goes on the MAF. I had it on in 30sec.
The rubber fittings do not look anything like the pics in the instructions, or in the pics in the
AEM review on the home page.
I did not check for hood clearance yet.
Strange ....
I took it back off because I need to run the new hoses for the EBC.
When I get all that done, I'll put it back on and check everything out and report back.
Stay tuned...

I don't seem to have any of the fitment issues that some have had.
I had to bend the lower tab a little on the heat shield to make it look straight. That's about it.
All the other parts seemed to fit where they were supposed to.
No touching the hood. I put a strip of toothpaste along the top edge of the filter, closed and
opened the hood, and no toothpaste on the hood.
Perhaps I got one of the new kits.
The thing that took the longest was getting the hose from the valve cover to fit over the
nipple (hehe, I said nipple) on the hard pipe.
They are about the same diameter to start with. Getting it to stretch was a bear.
The other thing I did was use some of the rubber edge protector they give you on a different spot.
I cut about 5" off and put that on the bottom edge, where the MAF harness might rub.
I put the rest where it's supposed to go, starting at the top of the filter cutout.
The part that's missing ends up blocked by the filter, so you don't see it missing.
Looks good. I also installed my EBC, and I haven't set it up yet, so I can't make boost to
hear what it sounds like.
the aem pipe etc is marginal as well as wwith the questionable functioning heat shield. but the intake itself is nice....im not sure what i'd get if i were to do it again.

I think if I was to do it over I might spring for the HKS RS.
It's a little slicker looking.
