Grinding sound coming from turbo?

Hey guys I wanna ask this question before I buy my buddy Dbb fp red. I went to look at the turbo before I buying it off of a buddy. I took the intake off and spend the wheels and to its if the shift was OK. I notice an grinding sound when I spin the blade. Is that normal? The turbo is still in his car.

Yeah any grinding/catching of any kind is not good. With the forces that these turbos undergo I wouldn't run anything less then perfect.

Well he selling me the turbo ets speed density intake BR intake manifold and exhaust manifold with Megan o2 Housing and Downpipe for $$1300. He still driving it around he don't know much about evo he just bought it a few months ago. He going back to stock. I think even if the turbo is bad and I send it off for repair I'll still come out pretty good....... Right? Lol

Well... The repair is going to cost you $1000+ most likely...

Secondly, you'll have to send in your unit to FP for repair who are going to make you wait for a month or so.

Thirdly, FP have stopped producing their DBB stock frame turbos for the time being, so they won't repair it anyway.

So good luck...

Dang that is right. My work schedule is messing with my head. Anyway I read some post on here saying that the fp red have normal "whining sound". Could this be what I hearing? Cuz I have rode in his car and it spool up and boost just fine......

I think the best course to take would be not buy it, and use your money to buy something new that doesn't have such a sketchy background. Even if they do repair it, for the amount of money you would spend you could just buy a new one.. Just my .02

You could always rebuild it to just a journal bearing turbo with a Evo 9 bearing housing and a TD06H turbine wheel for a journal bearing turbo.

forced performance isnt rebuilding or selling any turbo for the evo unless its the jb. they are back ordered on all the stuff that they use to make the turbos.....talked to them on friday. my friend used alamo turbochargers and they rebuilt his and he said they did a pretty good job but if you cant afford the down time of not having your car then its not even worth it.
