Well, the filter Jerry is using already doesn't have a bypass and it's 45 microns

You're overthinking this. A little bit of oil that makes a second pass before getting to the filter isn't worth agonizing over it. If your engine shed enough particulate in a few seconds to make an issue out of this, it would have grenaded long ago, and no filter would have saved it.

On the other hand, breaking in a fresh motor predictably generates more and larger particulate in a shorter amount of time than at any other point during the lifetime of the engine. If there is a time where eliminating the bypass is most useful, that's it.

Meh. Just theorizing/bench racing.

My cars have done fine over the years. I'm not too worried.

Ok, probably dumb question, but how much oil comes out when you take off the filter when the car is full of oil? Or is most of it in the pan because the car is off? Is it as simple as plugging the hole with something?

Just curious as I have never taken a filter off unless the engine was empty of oil.

maybe 1/8 of quart or less, i'd estimate. it doesn't take much to fill it up. very little oil comes from the lines, i just dump what's in the filter.

Is this because Kiggly uses 50WT oil or it can happen at thinner oils?

I have seen stock oil pump flows a lot at high rpm, so stock sized filters can become restrictive at high rpm??

Can we use either larger filters (hope that lowers pressure drop) or filters with stronger bypass valve settings like STi? (23 psi for Wix 57712)

I know current Hyundai OEM oil filters are made to be longlife, so their filter media has poor initial filtration efficiency (like 65%) and it gets better as more particles are piling up at the media, the local filter maker said it is fine as clean oil does not have much things to filter anyway.

So if I change the filter frequent enough, I should have pretty good flowing filter. (Also it is dirt-cheap like $2.xx per each locally for Hyundai OEM)

Not sure if I should get something mentioned here.

Do anyone see higher oil pressure after getting the Professional Product filter?

Waited about a month for 10854, STILL on back order. So I cancelled and bought 10870 instead. Looks like it would work, o-ring dimensions still fall within range of the sealing surface of OFH.

I saw that in the description for 10854 as well. But, it didn't make sense since the claim that "no unfiltered oil reaches the engine", was in the same sentence.

I received it yesterday and it looks exactly like the one posted in pic 5.

good to know as that one is a tad longer. I wonder if filter media is longer?

I've been out of the loop for a while. Has anyone settled on a which oil filters are the ones to buy? Or does it matter, any more?

They still classified it as a small filter so the filtration media is the same size as 10854.

I'm gonna ask a really dumb question.

Regarding the stainless filter, is the process to turn off the car, take the filter off, empty of any material, reinstall the filter and start the car again? I've never started a brand new engine and would rather look dumb by asking this question than not know

I didn't know that no-bypass filters existed but I have always worried about bypassing particles. I do like the idea of filtering 100% of the oil but I would want to be sure to clean the filter element regularly. I was also under the impression that the bypass at initial start-up promoted getting oil to the bearings faster.

I also found Canton filters. They have filters in the right thread:
https://www.cantonracingproducts.com...D-2-58-O-RING/

They also filter down to 8 microns.
