youre better off getting a larger filter that flows more oil and doesnt have as much pressure drop than just using some chinese junk no-bypass filter that could just collapse from too much pressure drop across the tiny element.

at one point i put together a parts list of everything needed to run a remote gm style filter. it would have netted no bypass and ~1qt additional oil capacity. in the end i decided it wasnt necessary, but that decision is everyones to make on their own.

the filter I linked is double the size... I wouldnt run it all the time though.. just for initial run in..

that canton filter sounds real nice. 12g/min flow and 8 micron sounds way better for full time use. I used the 40 micron filter for a year then went to a regular filter. I wanted to install oil pressure gauge on mine and check regular filter against this 40 micron no bypass and see if there was oil pressure loss at high rpm. just never got around to it.

so, I got the Baldwin equivalent of the WIX 57089 , the BT8902
fits the evo, and has no pressure bypass... will work for running in..

hmm the wix and baldwin are interesting.

I looked up the WIX specs:

Product Specifications
Part Number: 57089
UPC Number: 765809570894
Style: Spin-On Hydraulic Filter
Service: Hydraulic
Type: Full Flow
Media: Cellulose
Height: 4.801 (122)*
Outer Diameter Top: 3.01 (76)*
Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed:
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: None
Beta Ratio: 2/75=23/45
Burst Pressure-PSI: 200
Max Flow Rate: 8-10 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating: 23
( )* denotes metric
Gasket Diameters
Number O.D. I.D. Thk.
Attached 2.43 (62)* 2.2 (56)* 0.14 (4)*

23 micron = pretty good
8-10 gpm max = not great

I'm a little suspect of flow ratings as it should be oil viscosity related in my opinion.

Flow ratings are done with a standardized test fluid so the numbers are comparable across manufacturers..

Also, here are the specs from the Evo specific wix filter. The flow rating of that full flow filter is fine.

Part Number:57092
UPC Number:765809570924
Style:Spin-On Lube Filter
Service:Lube
Type:Full Flow
Media:Enhanced Cellulose
Height:2.944 (75)*
Outer Diameter Top:3.243 (82)*
Thread Size:20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI:14
Anti-Drain Back Valve:Yes
Beta Ratio:2/20-6/20
Burst Pressure-PSI:330
Max Flow Rate:9-11 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating:21

yes, I compared those two when looking for the filter. The wix site is the only one with all the spec.

Evo pump will flow about 10 GPM at full RPM... however, I dont see it as a problem as I will use this filter only for running in.. I wouldnt suggest running it all the time.

It is also about 2x the size of the stock evo filter..

don see the point in the wix filter. soo important to see what filter is picking up. so you know how long to use it. I checked/cleaned filter 6 times before deciding it was safe to use bypass filter. so that would be the equivalent of 6 wix filters. whats that cost?

If it wasn't so long I would run it for track days. But if it sticks down under the car, that's no bueno for anything other than the first 100 miles on a new motor either on the dyno, or just cruising around and being extra mindful of debris that can rip it off. I suppose that's how it gets the extra flow though, more filter media..

yeah.. it is not for full time use.. Just for two first mineral oil fills after a build. I wouldnt even run the oil cooler on those..

Any specs on it?
I did a quick Google search and came up with nothing.

it should have the same spec as the wix..

I built a custom turbo kit for my new project and didnt leave enough room for the professional products filter. miffed I searched around and bought another filter off ebay by company in australia. its more compact, 30 micron, twice size magnet, anti-drain back flap, and cheaper. buy the tool if you want to take apart without marking housing. (claim 12-16gpm)

update: this filter is same as what magnus sells. I never had one in my hand so I previously stated it had bypass. his video says it has one. but you cant see up close. so to clarify, this filter has no bypass. the 30 micron filter has far more pleating. so I dont think flow suffers from looking at it.
