Timing belt auto tensioner!

Hi guys! So today an evo specialist told me that once you pull the grenade pin on the timing belt tensioner THATS IT! You cannot re press it back into place unless it was done using a hydraulic press vertically because it can cause an airlock inside the hydraulic tensioner....... is this true because I've done quite a few before (when messing up the desired tension) using a vice VERY slowly then re-inserting the pin. I've never ever had a comeback when it comes to timing belts. Just want to see a show of hands who believe this or have done what I do and had a failure.
Cheers!

Read the manual, you can.

I have done so in the past as well.

Did he call himself a "specialist" or you gave him that title?

This specialist has owned his business for over 15 years and only works on evos Extreamly reputable workshop here in Australia. I think id have to disagree to an extent. The only no no for me is if its past its due by date and if the seal is leaking on the tensioner.

umm, yea! you can re-press the tensioner and reset that pin with a vice. just be careful not to damage it. from experience of doing this many times over. it can be done without a press.
