On a stroker, R2's hand down just 'work'.
Did you find you gained that power on the stroker? or on a 2L?

Stroker with a HTA green. only change to the set-up was the cams. The R2s gain a alot over both but were matched with a ported head too.

Now im running the R2 cams.
Ok well the r2 is out of the question, as i said the car is my daily and i want good midrange to top end as thats where i feel the lack of power. Im currently on the stock evo8 10.5 turbo and in the future ill be going with a fp black or hta red. Goal is 500-600whp with good street manners. I dont mind any lope, as long as i have a good power band im happy.

Ive ran R2 on stock block and they work very well. They gained more than regular S2 too. The idle is the same almost as the S2.

I have also ran Tomei Pro kind of like R2 but a little more mild but with awesome idle.

I have had S2, R2, Cosworth M2, Keford 272

I am not afraid to try anything new....I have never worked with 280s or 260s though.

Run Tomei 270......Sick cams but arent marketed in the US very much.

At the end you cant go wrong with any of those cams.

- S2's / Kelford TX272 / Tomei Pro270's give up a little below 5500rpm on a stock or small frame turbo'd car, will give perhaps ~10-12whp up top on a small setup. Once the turbo is larger, they really start to show their worth above 6k.
- R2's on a 2L small turbo drop a fair bit of torque prior to 4500, you can really feel the 'hole' in the torque curve and then suddenly it ramps up vertical around 4500 and you're away.
I think they would work fine on a road race style setup or highway monster, but for a daily/street car there are better options.
- HKS 274/278's are a pretty awesome street cam for small, quick spooling setups. They do exactly what all other HKS products generally do, and compliment under the curve power beautifully without upsetting the drive at all. They idle close to stock and make great power everywhere.

S1's are still my favourite small turbo street cam though.
Very well behaved, work perfect on stock cam gears on nearly all applications, make strong gains everywhere.

I may be a *****, but i'm sick of my S2's loping their head off.

This advice was perfect. I'm looking at cams at the moment and researching as much as I can and this was invaluable to me! thanks so much.

Great to know! Ive been leaning towards the S1, since my Evo 9 with basic bolt on's is DD. S2 is apparently the way to go but heard mixed reviews on street manners, unless anyone can say otherwise. I have short ram intake, exhaust, ETS FMIC, manual boost controller. No tune yet but will after I get my cams.
