274/278 hks 11mm or gsc s2

Im looking into doing cams on my evo 8. Was looking into these new hks 274/278 cams and was wondering if anyone actually did a real comparison with them and the revised gsc s2. I know the hks are a bit milder vs the s2, but how much difference does it make?

Btw my setup will be bolt ons 3.5" exhaust, test pipe, 3" downpipe, e85, stock 8.5 turbo, aiming for 400whp, later on will be on a fp black or red, or the map ef4, but still stock block.

Get the GSC S2's, they are proven to make good power. The only other consideration I would make for cams would be Kelford, STM, or Cosworth. It would be interesting to see the new HKS cams though, I just know their old 272s put a bad taste in some mouths with their minimal gains.

STM only make the 650s, and they were dubbed "650" for a reason, because they're only intended for 650+whp on their Mustang Dyno.

With that out of the way, get the GSC S2s. The spool loss is minimal and the gains are very apparent.

GSC S2. They are a great middle of the road cam. Stock turbo will be part on those cams.

Thats what i keep hearing, but it seems no one actually tested the new hks to see what they can actually do.

I agree with the GSC S2's being his best bet, but if he is upgrading to an FP black down the road he might want something more aggressive in the 280+ category, no sense in buying a set of cams then later upgrading to a more aggressive cam.

The car will still be a daily driver, dont want too much of a loss down low. I like good midrange to top end. Nice powerband for the street. So i dont see going s3 or 280 cams if i dont have to.

I have both, one Evo is on HKS 274/278 and other on GSC S2:
HKS is OEM like quality in all respects. No downsides at all. Just more power/torque across the rev range.
GSC S2: Greg off GSC will tell you that S1 makes more up to 5500rpm, where they "cross", and than S2 makes slowly more...how much more - honestly not that much unless you have large turbo and rev to 8500+Rpm.

Also S2 will not idle nice on Evo 8. They will be lopey. Now, you can tune it out but HKS has no lope.

Although some suggest S2 makes up to +20whp...I highly doubt that having both and having also witnessed many setups on personal cars and seeing how hard is to make 20whp at certain point!

For both you need Valve Springs.
But if you can live with S1, no need for Valve Springs, nice idle, and power where you want it..midrange.

Best of luck.

3.5" exhaust? Isn't that a bit of a overkill? Just curious
