God.......I hate mivec

So I'm tearing apart the motor since it spun a rod bearing at 2000 miles.....

Every time I mess with mivec fittings, those cheap brass fittings give me hell. So this time I snapped the big adapter that goes into the head, that the banjo feed bolt threads into. Anybody have a part number for that?

Breaking mivec parts are the worse as they are hard to find from anyone other than the dealer and they want an arm and a leg fr the parts.

If it wasn't for the evo 8 harness swap needed, this mivec garbage would be in the trash!

If you mean the mivec filter housing that goes between the head and the oil supply line, it is MD373617. They are like $25 I think.

It's possible to flash 8 code onto a 9 ecu.

Thanks, that's exactly the part I'm looking for. I appreciate it.

As for the evo swap. I've read you have to swap the evo 8 harness in??

What are you doing to the head that you keep breaking mivec parts? Cam swaps?

Well...lol...I have unfortunately had a run in bad luck over he last few years. Timing jumped, I bought a used Short block which threw rod after a year, then my 2000 mile old Buschur block spun a rod bearing at the shootout.

I'm surprised no one has made a mivec delete kit that would have a adjustable intake cam gear etc that bolts right up.

The MIVEC delete is called an VIII cam gear and an VIII intake cam, they use the same cam seals. I wouldnt delete it though as your problems arent what I consider common.

Learned something new today.
So I have r2 cams in my evo now. All I would have to do is get a evo 8 intake r2 camshaft. Either an oem cam gear or a aem adjustable one. And it will all work with out any issues?

What would you have to do about the mivec sensor and the oil line?
Is guess take the mivec sensor out and plug the hole up? Or would the ecu go ape****?

Thanks

Well, its still under investigation lol. Last year my 2.3 threw #4 rod. No longer sea why, I bought that block used and upon taking it apart I noticed the rods were some generic no name rods. So I contacted Buschur. He saidbsemd the crank and they would see if it's still good to use in a new 2.3. So I did. They said t tested fine and they would build me a 2.3 with it if I'd like and just take off the price of a crank. So I thought sweet.

Last June I got the motor back. Since I threw a rod, I purchased a new oil pan, new OEM oil cooler and lines, OEM oil pump and front cover. I had the head hot tanked, flushed the turbo out, flushed the oil filter housing out, valve cover had baffles removed so I made sure it was clean.

2000 miles and about a year later it spins the rod bearing on #4. Just seems like the crank is the culprit there. Can't be 100% though. I've contacted Buschur. He's being, well.....Dave Buschur. Saying I can send it back for him to look at it. I said back, I really didn't wanna waste money on shipping to him and back if its not gonna be something he did, which he told me the chances it was his fault are slim to none. He told me it prollywoukd be a waste of my money as it most likely won't be his fault. So from there on, I just started talking to Devin at boostin.

You'll also need an Evo VIII intake cam sensor as the non-mivec and mivec cam sensors are different. STM sells them.

I've been without MIVEC for 2 years now. I sold my 9 cylinder head and bought a EVO 8 cylinder head and EVO 8 cams, and de-pinned and removed all wiring for the intake cam sensor and all MIVEC related junk. The MIVEC oil feed on the back of the block just needs blocked off. Also bought a new EVO 8 exhaust cam sensor. My AEM just needed a few things adjusted but the car did run before those changes were made. The changes just made it better. I also use an EVO 8 head gasket as well. Hope this helps.

It really isn't that bad. I feel MIVEC is what led to me loosing a cylinder head a few years ago. It is also heavy and more crap to fail. And there are better cams available for the 8 vs. the 9.
