Evo 8 Stalls Every Time Clutch Let Out
Evo 8 Stalls Every Time Clutch Let Out
So my Evo started makingsome weird noises from the clutch area and eventually began to stall every time you tried to put it in gear. I took it to a garage and they said my clutch was dragging and causing the issue. The clutch kit was only about a year old (competion clutch stage 2) so I thought maybe it was a bad kit or install. I now have had a exedy stage 2 installed with a new lighterweight flywheel and new ss lines and still have the same problem. You can start the car up and the engine seems to rev fine. You can even drive about 100 yards or so, when cold but then the next time you stop and push the clutch in the car will stall every time when you let off the clutch no matter how much gas you try to ive it. I have had many mechanics look at this an no one has a clue. I miss the beast and any help appreciated!!

It started to stall occasionally and then constant. The other factor is the car went through two sets of competition clutch kits in a year. The first one went with a the pedal just dying and going to the floor like there was no pressure. The second one died with tons of noise and when removed the disc was thin and the pressure plate was worn. If the clutch was dragging on the second clutch so bad, I never smelt a thing. Again now I have the third clutch kit in it with zero miles because it stalls every time you let the clutch out. Very odd.
Sounds to me the simplest thing would be to make sure your clutch pedal is adjusted properly. If the clutch is dragging as bad as you say, that would be the first thing I would check. Also, the pedal sticking to the floor would have little to do with the actual clutch assembly itself, and more to do with one of 3 items: 1. Bad master cylinder; 2. Bad slave cylinder; 3. A leak in the hydraulic line.
Edit: Those 3 items I listed for the dead pedal will also cause you clutch to drag during shifts as well. Before you waste more money and burn up another clutch, check all items from pedal to the slave cylinder for proper adjustment and function.

The mystery has been solved. My evo 8 has crankwalk. The crank is moving about a 1/16 of an inch when pushing the clutch in. Looks like my Evo days are over. Anyone interseted in a cheap EVO with crankwalk? North Carolina
