How long do you let built motors warm up?
I recently installed a built 2.0L motor in my car. I've heard you are supposed to let the engine warm up before driving it but for how long? My neighbors don't really like their pictures rattling on the bedroom wall for 10 minutes at 6am!
I have been letting it idle for approx 3 minutes but even then when I go to drive it I do hear some clicking/tapping until the car is warmed up.
Just curious what everyone else is doing. Thanks in advance!

i've always waited until the temp needle moves a bit which is usually 1-2 minutes. mine has either a bit of piston slap or lifter fade for the first 5-10 seconds on cool mornings. that's it.
I never thought there is difference between idling the car for three minutes or driving very slow till I see the water temp gauge up and moving. ideally oil temp should be above 170 before you get on it. which is impossible for me even in florida where the tempts come up pretty quick.
I would say it is not, however my exhaust is 2' long and dumps out of the front bumper.
But every day I drive it I jump in fire it up, back it down the driveway and off I go. No special requirements. My brother has an STI with a benson sleeved 2.34 and he will let his car warm up for 10 minutes. I don't get it but hey what can you do.
