Exclamation reason for high oil temps ?

car reaches 195-205 degrees oil temp from just normal city driving. no pulls, no high rpm revving. just driving under 3K rpm but oil temp still climbs to that point.
if driving on some slight uphills temp easily reaches 212 degrees

and this happens when ambient temp is 60 degrees

water temp seems normal. at least car gauge shows so. never ever had overheating issue. needle sits at 8 o'clock. fans come on in time. no restrictions for the airflow to the oil cooler

car is built 2.3
using Motul Xcess 8100 5W-40 oil

any suggestions ?

How does your oil cooler look?

Is it oem?

I've seen some smashed from rocks so they cannot cool properly.

If it's stock throwing in a 25 row Derale oil cooler wouldn't be a bad idea. I've done a few installs for customers with no issues. I've done 2 installs on stock location and I did one with my cooler mounted in front of the radiator.

in fact, it's an evo 4, that had oem tiny cooler

and I've replaced it with quite bigger one from MMC pajero

fins aren't perfect but neither are in that shape, to block airflow (not actual pics)

Is the inner tubing the same as the oem one? As in its letting enough oil through?

Also after a 10 minute drive touch the oil cooler lines and see if they are hot.

Your thermostat on the oil filter housing may not be opening up

This^
And it maybe the thermostat for the cooler is set to open at 185-195--causing it to stay closed until those temps are reached so it never really cools off.

don't rally know what's happening inside the cooler

do you mean if the cooler lets the oil to flow in it at all ? I've checked it and the cooler was definately hot. top side more, bottom side less. or other way round, don't remember

how can I check if it opens up at all, or at what temperature is it set to ??
