it prob is the dual springs , oem seals are best , can be done in situ

i use similar to this below one cyl at a time make sure piston is near tdc and dont apply to much comp air

I had the same issues and 2.4lr. Found out the culprit was improperly installed piston rings. One was actually broke. If ure burning that much oil why are you launching it?

I am not launchin it. I revved it up in neutral to hit the 2 step rev limiter to see if there was smoke coming out from behind it.

But thanks everybody for the help, I think I'm going to replace the valve seals, then if if persists, rebuild it

Question, does it smoke at idle? Its obvious oil is passing somewhere. Also pull your plugs and see if oil is around it, look down at the top of the pistons if you see oil on top its your rings my friend.

Like many of the others have said your rings are NFG. Either installed wrong or very early failure. Your compression test told you what was wrong you just don't want to accept it. Compression went up when you shot oil into the cylinder thus helping the rings to seal better end of story.

I hear you, but my only issue with this is that first of all, all the cylinders were up to spec where they should be before the oil

Secondly, I'm willing to bet that if anybody goes out to their car and does the same test, oil will just create a better seal on the piston walls and the number will go up.

And do you think that all 4 pistons would have bad rings in a matter of 1000 miles?

I understand this could be the problem but these are the only reasons I haven't pinpointed it to the rings yet

No smoking at idle, and there's no oil on the plugs

I had under 1000k on my build. Only smoked at idle. Burned a quart almost every 100miles. I would at least do a leak down test

What would the leak down test tell me? It wouldn't narrow down the problem would it? Just which cylinders

Leak down test shows if it's valves or rings and if it intake or exhaust valves.

Could you briefly explain to me how I can narrow it down with the leak down test?

You have to listen as to wheere it sounds like its going. Get someone who has experiance to help. The other issue coukd be as simple os when the rings were installed they were not staggered leaving a gap for oil to pass. But the valve seals are also another known issue.
