Opinion on Comp Clutches?

So I have a Evo IX MR with bolt on and 310HP max and at 104K miles. Was on stock clutch till now so I was kind of looking to replace with something that has the same stock clutch feel and since i'm only at 310HP I doubt I need anything too crazy.

I came across this deal and just want to get peoples opinion?

Stage 3 from comp is way overkill for your car. it's rated at like 520wtq i think

If you want stock feel, Exedy Organic Stage 1 is probably best. 400wtq rating, sprung disk.

I'm in the same boat right now, shopping for a new clutch. I'm looking at Exedy Organic Stage 1, ACT HDSS, Comp Stage 2 Sprung. All with a stock or close-to-stock-weight flywheel

I had a comp stg 4 before on my old evo 8, i was looking at the stg3 which was sufficient for my power but i didnt want to wait for the break in period and went straight to a stg 4. Imo its very good clutch easy to live with as a dd. I have a comp stg 2 unprung now, its great minus the chatter moving from a dead stop. Never going unprung again.

I have stg3, its kinda crabby. Doesn't bother me, but even after having it for 24k miles, it'll still catch me out and I'll almost stall the car lol

I'm happy with the Comp stage 2 I had recently installed. It has stock feel and good daily driving street manners. It smells a bit if slipped but that could be just from the break in. I purchased another OEM throw out bearing and ACT monoloc. I did not use the Comp supplied TOB. That is a stupid deal on the stage 3 so go for it if you drag race or track the car. Just understand the differences in the clutch material for the kind of driving you do. I have similar power to your car and the stage 2 is perfect for the setup IMO. Exedy stage 1 would have been my other choice if i didn't purchase the competition clutch in case you wanted to know.

In addition the exedy have 2 options for the stage 1. The regular pressure plate is rated around 340tq and the HD version (more expensive) is rated around 400tq.

Yeah, I didn't really want to go up to STAGE 3. Would have been fine with a Stage 1 or 2, but the price on it is really cheap (I think let me know if I'm wrong). Does it matter if you have the 6speed or 5speed evo when it comes to the clutches?

That link you provided is the standard exedy stage one the HD has the HD after the part number if you wanted that one. The clutches are the same for 5 or 6 speed. I have a 6 speed as well fyi.

i run/track the **** out of a (road course) sprung comp stage 2 with exedy lightweight flywheel. it is hands down the best aftermarket clutch i have run in any car. Ive used 2 stages of ACT and exedy as well as an extremely expensive SACHS racing clutch.

its a carbon/kevlar disc now that slips very nicely and makes for smoothe takeoffs

Get stage 2 I've installed maybe 10 of these from stage one to stage 4.

Only reccomrndstion is throw that spring collar in the trash and buy an oem one or act monoloc. The one comp includes is garbage

comp stage 2 with a monoloc is an excellent option for the op. I have one and been very happy with it. car dynoed 340 hp/350tq on a dyno dynamics dyno and the clutch has had no issues with that power level.

hmm.. so definitely not going with the stage 3 deal.

Anyone have recommendations where to get the comp stage 2 at a good price or the Exedy stage one HD?

Also read that you shouldn't drive on the highway till you break in the clutch. Break in is 500miles!? This is my daily driver and I do a lot of highway to get to work. Don't think I'd have the time to put into that kind of break in.

You can drive on the freeway. You just need to do a longer break-in period. They want 500 miles of mostly city driving. The clutch has to bed in to the pressure plate and flywheel, just like brakes bed in to the rotor. The only way it does that is with starting from a stop, and up shifting. Cruising on the freeway doesn't break-in the clutch...
