Wiseco 2.3L Piston Ring Gap - Need Advise

Hi, would hope to get some advise here on my Wiseco 2.3L Piston Ring Gap.

The feeler gauge reading on Top Ring 0.17 (431) / 2nd Ring much bigger than what my feeler gauge have (more than 0.20 (508) above and im confuse as the wiseco ring gap spec for Street Moderate Turbo recommendation for Top Ring is 0.0050" inches / 2nd Ring is 0.0055' inches

Piston Bore Size : 86mm / 3.3858 inches

Wiseco Ring Gap Spec :
Top Ring = 0.0050" x 25.4mm = 0.127mm
2nd Ring = 0.0055 x 25.4mm = 0.140mm

So, my concern is the currently ring gap (Top & 2nd Ring) is already very much bigger than the Wiseco recommended ring gap spec.

My NOOB calculation : Since the required spec as mentioned is 0.0050", So bore size 86mm = 3.3858" x required gap size for my application 0.0050" = Required Feeler Gauge Reading is 0.17?

Please forgive and teach me on how to correctly read the Feeler Gauge & Calculation.

Thanks A Million

Your caliper is reading in MM, which is literally right at .017".

I would shoot for .018" top ring, .020" bottom ring. Maybe a little more depending on how much boost you're going to run.

Hi, thanks for yr kind advise and so im right on the calculation as Feeler Gauge 0.17 (431) is equivalent to 0.0066"

If according to Wiseco ring gap of 0.0050" the Feeler Gauge reading is 0.13 (330)?

Secondly, my 2nd ring gap is more than 0.20 on the feeler gauge and will this cause problem?

How much power do you plan on making? What turbo and what boost levels? That will come into play when doing a build.

I set mine to .022" top and .024" bottom. Running almost 40psi on this setup.

Hi Evolve, im only looking at 22psi boost and going for 0.0055" on Street performance and Occasionally Track & Hill Climb run.
Targeting 370whp.

Whether will it be a Ok if the Top ring gap is .017" and 2nd ring is .022"?

My 2nd ring gap is more than .20" now.

Thanks

your ring gap is not .20", you would be able to measure that with a measuring tape. Those gaps that wiseco recommends (.0055, .0060, etc) need to be multiplied by the bore (in inches).

if you get your ring gaps at .018"-.020" top ring, and .020"-.022", you'll be fine. The important thing is for all the ring end gaps to be as close to the same as possible.

Dear Forumers,
could you advise me on how do exactly install the Groove Lock Spacer which comes with the Pistons?
Is it to be place on the bottom most at the Oil Rings groove?
Example :
1 - Top most = Oil Rail
2 - Middle = Oil Ring Expander
3 - Direct below Oil Ring Expander = Oil Rail
4 - Below Last Oil Rail = Groove Lock Spacer
Is the sequence correct and what if the Groove Lock Spacer Ring is not install?

Thanks

As long as the second ring is larger you are ok. For that, I would do .018-.020 on the top and .022 on the bottom.
