Evo fuel/boost cut...? Need help

Hey guys so I got my Evo 8 a week ago. The last owner did not take the best care of it. I got the car and it had a fuel cut. So far I have changed the oil to Mobil 1 Extended performance 10w 30 (Many forums recommended it) and also changed the spark plugs(NGK BPR7ES gapped to about .26-.28). The Plugs were HORRIBLE after the car ran SOO much better. No fuel cuts or anything. However yesterday I stepped on it and hit a fuel cut again , my fuel was low so I filled up a bit and tried again, nothing. Hit fuel cuts again, so thinking it was crappy gas I added some octane booster... The car again ran amazing, pulled super hard thru 1,2,3 however in4th gear at around 6k RPM I hit a fuel cut ...

I'm thinking it might be a tuning problem...? Since the octane booster did seem to help. Also the car has some sort of Toyota(Denso) Coil in plugs on it, idk if that matters or if its normal.

I am new to Evo world and could use some expertise.

Thank you!

Hmm, yea the tune is probably the most recent thing I'm going to do. I don't have the stock coils, any idea where I can get some? all the aftermarket ones online are super pricey.

Try 0.020" plug gap.

Weird because I just tried the car today and it ran no problem , no fuel cut, not even deep into 7k rpms in 4th gear. Weird... Also if I smack the cold air filter ( the air intake in general) the car idles down. UI noticed this because every time I closed the hood the car idled down...

Well I'm not going to beat on it (or try to lol, just so much fun) until I re-gap the plugs to low 20s and get it tuned.

PS: I definitely appreciate all the help from you guys, thanks.

what are your current modifications to your car? if you have a MBC and boost turned up without a tune it will cause those symptoms or modifications without a tune. you probably need a tune.

Bigger FMIC
Injen Intake
Injen Charge pipe
Some sort of High flow catted exhaust (3 inch)

It might be, it does look very clean and well done if it is.

I've heard that from many people, lots of peeps say they're awesome and hold great power.

I'm just going wait and tune it, because when I add Octane booster the problem seems to almost go away so I am guessing its fuel/ timing related due to the tune.
