OEM v.s Rebuilt Drivetrain

Found a decent deal on a used TC and rear diff for my Evo 8. Came off of a wrecked 04 with 60k. Guy assures its in great condition, its local so i will be seeing it in person before if i decide to purchase.

I own a 2003 Evo pushing 150k with the original TC and rear diff. I will be having those parts inspected by a professional, but my gut feeling is that it needs a rebuild.

My question is, whats the benefits having a rebuilt one oppose to an OEM spec one. Keep in mind that i do not plan to do any type of racing events other than occasional trips to the drag.

My goal for my build when completely done is somewhere in the 350-450hp range if that matters.

Rebuilds are better. Bearing preloads and gear wear patterns are not exactly correct from the factory in every unit.

Yeah, I've read about the rear diff plates/disc being incorrect from factory. Never heard anything about the TC.

Anybody pushing between 350-450 hp on stock Drivetrain. If so, how long and whats your thoughts on it.

$1200 for front and rear diff is my purchasing price. Now.

To rebuild, or not to rebuild.

What I said has nothing to do with the diff clutch plates. And if your gears aren't noisy, you won't need a new ring and pinion. If your stuff isn't mking noise, why are you even worried about this?

Regardless, I would send my stuff to TRE for a refresh. I would not buy unknown parts.
