I think its a boost leak?

Hey guys, I wanna get some insight before I take my car to go get a boost leak check. About a few days ago my turbo was boosting just fine around 3500rpm-3800.

I then drove about 2 hours to a well known tuning shop to change out my ecu because I was running an AEM EMS and couldn't pass emissions. After they tuned my car after replacing the ecu, they told me my turbo didn't spool until 4500rpm. They say that it may be a boost leak or it may be its an old turbo and the setup might not be the perfect one. I have an apexi turbo that was made like in 2008-09.

So you guys think it could be that the AEM was letting my turbo spool earlier, or its just an old turbo, or it might be a boost link. I don't feel like im losing power and the guys said I wasn't really losing power either, my turbo was just spooling late. Thank you for your guys help.

That is like 1000 RPM difference!
Did you have to replace the trigger plate on the crank shaft? AEM EMS usually needed it and stock ECU doesn't. Anything else changed? Intake? Boost controller?

Where did you take it? Why not take it back to them and tell it to fix it?

There is no reason that spool on a turbo should change

Nothing else really changed. They just put in the stock ecu and tuned it and dyno'd it. They asked if I wanted to do a boost leak check but they said that some of the bolts were really rusty and may break. I mean I am going to replace the turbo in a few months so I might fix it if its something easy and cheap or I might not.

Buy you some worm clamps and go do your leak test.
