Clutch Slippage, time for a new one again!
Clutch Slippage, time for a new one again!
I went through a lot of **** with the dealership over the warranty on my first clutch. My car had 3100 miles on it the last time the clutch went out and my car was completely stock. They said it was driver error and did not warranty it. They had already started installing the new parts when they informed me that it was not going to be warrantied. $1300 later i had another ****ty stock peice in my transmission. At that point i just wanted my car back because they were idiots. I have driven the car even more conservatively than on the first clutch and modified it and it went out at 14,400 miles. My mods are SAFC2, Turbo Timer, and Cat Back exaust. So thats 11,300 miles on the second clutch. Its not dead completely but it slips like a mother ****er. I gave up on writting letters to corporate mitsu last time because i just didnt have the time for it. I really should have. I am sure they will probably refuse me warranty on the clutch again. Can I even get warranty service on this one if i didnt on the first? I dont know exactly how the drivetrain warranty works, because my books and stuff are at home, and im away at school. This is some ****. So how do you people think i should procede from here??
Im just pissed because the didnt warranty it in the first place, and they should have. I baby my car so much, Ive never even had it on the track. Im definately going to put a better clutch in this time. I just think that something isnt right.
So i just got off the phone with the service guy at the dealer. He basically told me with my driving habits i should expect to replace my clutch every 6 months. He also made the claim that his dealership has sold 40+ evos and very few of them have had clutch problems. He said the reason the first one went out so fast was because there was less tire slippage in the summer. The second one took longer because it was winter so the clutch had less wear because the tires slipped more because it was winter. Those two statements make sense, but i'd say 90% of my milage are highway miles, going between chicago and western illinois university(4 hour trip). Slowing down only for toll booths, i dont even stop because i have I-Pass. When my car is here at school it hardly moves at all. During the summer i take the train to work, so my car sits in the driveway. I know im not going to get warranty service, but it is just frustrating. He told me that aftermarket clutches DO NOT work well with the stock fly wheel. Is that true?

Your dealer sucks about as bad as your evo clutch. another bad unit, and still some people insist on this board that nothing is wrong with these cars. wait until your transfer case goes, that'll be another 3k out of pocket unless your dealer changes his ways. I'm done with this car. I'd make a complaint to the bbb or something to the likes of that organization.

Someday i may want to make that muchh torque. for now i need to figure out what i want to do in the next few years, last time i acted too fast, and just had it replaced with the stock clutch.
11k miles, still on stock clutch and drive it hard but no crazy launches. Best bet, invest on a twin plate. It cost an arm and a leg but you won't have to worry about the clutch anymore.
Doesn't it seen odd, lot of guys who say they baby the Evo seem to lose the clutch quick while guys who say I beat the **** out of it seem hold on to the stock clutch. Maybe these clutches are meant to be driven hard. I know few track guys who still have the stock clutch. Brake pads on the other hand is a different story.
