Im deciding between the Exedy Hyper Single Clutch, and The Exedy Hyper Twin Clutch. The twin is about $300 more and good for about 500HP i think?? I like the twin, but i think i read or heard from someone that it puts more wear on stuff like the syncros and what not. Like i said before Im no clutch expert so i want to do more research.

clutches

I don't want to point fingers, but in general...'most' clutches that have problems are those who have a habit (unintentional of course) of resting ever-so-slightly (even between shifts) their foot on or above the clutch pedal.

It may not seem like much force is applied, but after time, those drivers seem to push their clutches into extinction a lot faster.

A one time clutch smell doesn't mean the clutch is going to tank (for those who drive 'agressively.')

I rested my foot above the clutch pedal on takeoffs and toasted one clutch in 30k miles on my old Geo Prism. (20k miles when I bought the car.) So...I put myself into the habit of putting my clutch foot off the side of the clutch pedal, even when shifting and accel. hard with the EVO. I think this really, really, really helps.

Now, as far as a dealer is concerned. If they didn't adjust the clutch when they put the new one in, there is the slight possibility its toasted because of their techs.

Good Luck,

Cheers,

Later,

jcnel.

I think there might have been a bad batch where alignment with clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and tranny was out of spec enough to cause ridiculous wear.

I have 12,000 miles on my car, and it has 300whp. I've never once smelled burning clutch or had it slip. I do have the restrictor pulled and the SS line, and I've only ever launched it 3 times since I bought it, but no trouble, period. This is my 7th manual transmission car, and I never lost a clutch on any of them. I use proper clutch techniques to prolong life of the unit, IMO.

I could say all this crap and the clutch go tomorrow, but I doubt it will. If there is a bad batch of misalignment, I seem to have gotten lucky, because mine is still like new.

Since it's not:
1.) Driver error (still leaving it open since this is you first manual but a manual isn't that tough so I'm giving you the benifit)

2.) Clutch disc (since this is your second)

Could it be a bad pressure plate? Why else would Noise, myself, and others get over 15k on the stock clutch while BlueByYou can burn one up in 10k? What else could possibly effect the clutch?

The pressure plate and disk and throw out bearing were all replaced, Flywheel was fine(as far as i know) I have the original parts at home. Perhaps when i make it home i can take some pictures of them so you people can see them. When i get this one taken out I will do the same for comparison.

edit: after some thought im not sure if the throw out bearing was replaced or not

Search a bit and you will find all kinds of stuff on this topic. The first thing is the darn restrictor in the hydraulics which prevents the clutch from engaging faster than Mitsu. decided was fast enough. The long hydraulic line is another culprit. It keeps positive feel from reaching the pilot and replaces it with a mushy feel which makes the clutch more difficult to modulate. There are a few other issues that you will find if you search.

Not saying that it is your fault....but speaking kinda OT, there is a lot of people that thinks that they know how to drive a stick as well or better than anyone else when it is their first manual car. Then they think there is no way in hell that it is their driving habits. Kind of generalizing here...but how much do they know when it is there first manual car?? They don't even have experience yet.. Maybe they have had 1 year experience since they have had their car for a year..but compare to those that have been driving a manual transmission for like 10-20 years.
