balance shaft delete
balance shaft delete
So for whatever reason right now i cant post this in a difference section. I guess because i changed my password. Im having my 2.0 motor built to be a longrod. Several of my buddies with evo's have had oil pumps go out using the oem stub shaft balance shaft delete. So they have switched to the gsc balance shaft delete. I have to decide stub shaft or gsc balance shaft delete. I dont want my oil pump dying and screwing up the motor. Is anybody running the gsc shaft in your car? I know real st performance uses them and i got an engine build quote from boostin performance for a motor build and it included the gsc shaft so i assume thats what they use.
this has been discussed many times. the machined down shaft does NOTHING to make the oil pump live. stubbie is a factory part that works fine. people who say the shaft is a good idea are bad at math and shouldnt be mechanics if you ask me.
My limited experience is with my 2.3 stroker build. It's a factory stubby shaft and lasted over 40K miles and still going. GT35R @ 35 PSI regularly. No oil pump issue.

Worth noting .... I have a 2.0 with delete .... the engine noise is significant. I don't mean knock or rattle... just a louder engine in general. I wish I would have kept the balance shafts.
if it's a daily driver, keep the balance shaft. if it's track car, remove it. i opted to remove balance shaft and CBRD milled the delete shaft, similar to GSC delete shaft. my main concern was the balance shaft belt snapping and taking out the timing belt, which happened to two people i know. i also have a 2.2 LR for high rev, and the balance shaft spinning twice as fast as engine speed also concerned me.
I've had the gsc balance shaft delete in for 3 years now with no issues, mainly deleted them to delete the belt so I had one less thing to worry about going out and destroying another engine. Personally for me I figured that 2 support points was better than one for a rotating mass, but the stub shaft is an oem part so I'm sure it's just as reliable as the full shaft. But with that said I am getting my a$$ kicked by calculus right now haha.
