FP Green goes to turbo heaven
FP Green goes to turbo heaven
I had a good 5 year run with my JB FP Green. She finally bought the farm at the track last weekend but I guess all good things must come to an end. It was a fitting conclusion as I gave a couple of Porsches a good run for their money.
I'm thinking if I'd get another JB or upgrade to a BB. I never got tired of the Green's fast spool up and mid range torque. I've been going through the forum threads and it seems the Green is still the stock frame choice for fast spool and midrange torque. I've been out of the loop for a while...is there any new stock frame "Greenlike" turbo out there that I should consider?

If you can find a bbk-full I'd jump on it. I'd even consider an hks 7460 I think is the number. OG Stock frame turbos are becoming obsolete now a days as it's harder to get mhi parts IIRC. The new "stock frame" setups require a new downpipe and external wastegate which for the price you can get a t3 setup and make more power but thats another conversation. Good luck in your search. It might be worthwhile to finding a used 9 turbo and sending it in to be rebuilt with upgraded parts.
Green kills a BBK full for power, at the sacrifice of a little bit of spool up. I would send the green into FP for a rebuild, and possibly a BB upgrade, and go to the bigger 67mm turbine for more flow. At 5 years old, you also may not have the latest compressor wheel (HTA aero), so you may be able to upgrade that as well.
Thanks for the replies and updates...I guess things have changed quite a bit.
I still have my stock Evo 9 turbo so will probably slap that on for now while I decide what to do.
The BBK Full and Green BB / Aero upgrade sounds good, but from what I am now hearing; I may be willing to go the "non-stock frame" route if the performance bump justifies the cost.

No real advice from me- I just wanted to comment about the FP green too
Mine has many many miles and many track days... it has held up and performed amazing. Makes good power without sacrificing spool time and midrange. It is an incredible turbo and I'm going to be sad the day it dies.
