Boost leak test help. Searched and still have questions
Hey guys. First off Ibe searched and am almost more confused now. The pictures are of my current setup which hasn't run right for two years. Extremely rich at idle no boost blah, blah blah. I need to get an accurate blt done so I can get this tuned again. My questions are what needs to be pluged, disconected or zip tied shut to do this. Do I need to do anything to my catch can setup. Does my mbc need to be removed or zip tied off. The same questions for the waste gate and blow off valve. It felt like the more research I did the more confusing info I've gotten . Please help me figure this out. Thanks guys!!!!!!
Your catch setup is fine. When you perform the test, be sure the PCV valve is not allowing pressure back through it, as dirty ones oftentimes do.
Your blowoff valve is fine unless it opens during the test - if set up correctly, it shouldn't.
Your mbc is simply a controlled boost leak in the WG signal line. I recommend taking both out of the loop by disconnecting that line from the manifold and blocking the port for the test.
Ted B: if there is air coming from the front VC fitting, would it be correct to assume the PCV isn't working correctly?
Not necessarily, because a cold engine allows a small amount of air past the piston rings and valve guides, which will vent through the catch system. It's a good idea to check the PCV valve individually, clean it, shake it, and verify that it functions and seals without obstructions.

gotcha. you were telling OP that the catch can is okay. i always capped my front VC port because it always had enough air coming through that i could hear it.
