Is it worth changing from Redline fluid to the Pennzoil Syncromesh? Or is the redline just as good as the syncromesh as far as high speed shifting goes?

I have about 1/2" of freeplay on my clutch. I might need to lessen the freeplay to 1/4" to see if that helps. I think my hand may be too quick too. When I shift fast on the street, but not dragstrip fast, the car shifts perfectly. I think it might be the hand slightly faster than the foot.

Go ahead with the ACT clutch, not only does it kick *** but the customer service is explary. You could not ask for better customer service then what Dirk Starksen gave me.

joeycoates,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had the occasional 2nd gear grind even with the much improved shifting performance with Synchromesh and made a minor adjustment moving the pedal up 1/4", still within specs with 1/4" of play and it does seem to be better. I haven't experienced the grind. If anyone is going to make the adjustment make sure you have a good reference point. There are several to look for that's layed out in the service manual. The easiest reference I used was the pedal stop located on the floor and the rubber stop located behind the clutch pedal lever. There should be at least 4.5" distance between the two. Very easy to adjust. The only thing I would add once the lock nut is loosened with the 12mm is to slightly push down on the pedal a bit to turn the adjustment rod easily with your fingers.

Cool, I am happy that you got the same results that I did, and you are right about pushing down on the pedal to make the adjustment easier, now that I think about it I found the same thing when I did it.

I have the 1-2 shift problem and thank you all for your advice. I just got the car and will try the clutch pedal adjustment first. I still have the stock line and the restrictor in. I hope that the adjustment solves it. Does anyone know whether the restrictor removal or the SS line void the warranty? I only have 2700 miles on the car. Stock clutch and stock fluids.
