how do I turn my evo into a 2.3 or 2.4 motor?

how can it be done?
I am reading that it can be done without buying a packaged stroker kit.
what do I need?
Crank from where?
Pistons from where?
Rods from where?
Could someone who knows, please give me all the detailed specs on what to get?

thanks!!

There has been some talk about using the Evo head with a 4g64 (?) bottom end. You could probably find the threads with a search.

its possibly fairly simple..... basically you need to find out the bore of piston you need... then you need to get rod length and stroke of the crank... Some early ford 347 strokers used rods from a pinto 4 cyclinder! sooo.... basically if you can find all this info and find matching parts some where it can be done with the proper machining..... ill try too look around and get the specs for the 2.4 liter stroker.....

102mm stroke (88mm stock)
86mm bore (85mm stock)

wristpin location is chosen partially to determine compression ratio. and rod length also determines this ill keep digging and try to find a complete kit with all spec's.....

There are many people who have done stroker/4G64 swaps, there's one guy with a completed one on my local DSM board, and two in progress. Neither have actually changed their block, but have actually stolen pieces from Hyundai engines (licensed versions of Mitsu's 4g63/64). If you're looking for more info, check DSMTalk.com and do a search for Strokers, or check out my local page [http://bc.dsm.org] for more specific experiences, INCLUDING PARTS LISTS available from your local Dealer. Also, if your local club is big enough (local meaning city/dealer region) see if you can hack a deal with them for discounts on parts, I know my guys have hacked out a deal with one. Or, see if you can get a deal from them by buying all your parts at once from them...shop around say "Look, I'm going to be ordering all this stuff at once from someone, if you give me a deal, it could be you" And then worst comes to worst, go to whazzitsface the licensed dealer, and get 10~20% off parts! haha.

TaiwanEVO, you need some schooling. 1)fitment is nigh on impossible. 2)those 300 horses are at the Crank, not the wheels, which means that it's about equal with what the EVO comes with stock. 3)While they're close together stock, the 4G63 has more potential, as the STi's motor is just about tuned to the limit.

There are several differences even between the 1G and 2G 4g63s, let alone the differences for the DSM vs EVO 4g. Different pistons, I'm pretty sure you've got the 7 bolt flywheel...the list goes on. The easiest way to do the modifications is to grab a new crank/pistons, etc etc. There are several ways to do it, but not having to swap out the actual block is ideal. And remember, lowering your compression isn't always a bad thing, it means you can run more boost in the end.

Why is it when someone talks abotu stroking the 4G63 in the Evo big $$$$$$ comes up, but it can be done in a DSM cheaply? I know that the Evo is a newer platform, but they are all 4G63's aren't they? I could be way off base here as I am not familiar with DSM's at all, I just thought that they were a similar engine.

The EVO 8 layout is way different from DSM.

The biggest you can go with a EVO 8 motor is 2.2 or possibly 2.3.

We are in the process of putting a full 2.4 in our EVO 8. We are using a 4G64 block.
