If anyone has a white Evo like me and is thinking of putting on a test pipe be prepared for the paint to be stained yellow and constantly showing more dirt/exhaust crap. I ended up buying the heat shield from lancershop.com and this has stopped increasing the size of the stains and cut down on the dirt/exhaust crap. The test pipe is a great mod and for the money it is hard to beat. I purchased the UR and am very pleased. No cel as advertised. I would do it over again, no regrets.

I question the right for John Q Law to stick long, sharp objects in my tailpipe (Legally and figuratively).

I've made my own cat look alike. Take two cat heat sheilds, preferably from a car where they bolt together at the 4 corners ( 3G Eclipse I think), sandwich it over the 3" testpipe along with some fiberglass muffler packing for motorcycles in between so it doesn't rattle and use some JB Weld to help hold it to the testpipe. You can find heatshields at a Midas junk pile. Worked for 3 years in my old Eclipse, even after I crashed it the shields held on.

Hmm, no smells from my A/C, and the smell is hardly noticeable..My Supra on the other hand......
Um, since you are in Cali, you should prolly go with a hi-flow. But here in OK, they don't smog the cars.

Neither do I.

My Cobra stunk so bad that my passengers could barely breath a a stoplight though.

If he asks you do you have a cat, always say yes. It was damaged and replaced by an aftermarket high flow cat.

no big deal

As already stated, the smell is minor - especially compared to other vehicles. My wife would not ride in my wrx due to smell and noise - she has said nothing about my EVO

My main concern was attracting police and rice, neither has occured.

I was expecting a much louder exhaust when I installed downpipe and testpipe - but it is not loud at all - my stock SVT focus is louder

It looks like a cat from the outside and even has a filled in sound like a cat when you tap it...but guess what its a perfect 3 inch all the way through... getting mine installed this friday at RRE,I already have the UR high flow also and its an awesome piece but the gains from a test pipe are too much to be ignored, also if a popo looks under the car sees the cat,the most he can do is take make you go to a state ref,you can just put your stock back on

I never heard of them putting a piece of tube/wire in the exhaust to test for cat,I would try to say no to that in fear of damaging cat combs :}

hey bro, how much did u get the RRE's test pipe for? i mean out the door plus tax and install and everything? Thanks man

The fake cat is $200 on the pricey side but the HP gains are there compared to a $300 intake............plus they got to add flanges and fitment... Look at about $250....Other problem is appointment took me 2 weeks to get in,there a busy shop...

What I would recommend if you know a good exhaust shop is go to RRE pick up the fake cat then go to your favorite muffler shop to install flanges and fitment....that would be the quickest route......

Wont know for certain untill this friday...

It all depends what kind of flanges also, aluminized steel or stainless steel...

makes a difference in price...

Also get your O2 simulator from Buschur Racing... will be testing all these products with pics

Just got back from RRE,great bunch of guys...

Ok first things first, Idle sound is exactly the same with the high flow ,cruising is actually very good! not loud at all, some drone...but depends what exhaust you have.. and your definition of loud

Now when I get on it after 5000 rpm thats when the note changes, still deep mind you but about 20% louder then the high flow..

See the thing is it will only get on the louder side when you mash the peddle other then that the sound is perfect.

To tell you the truth I was worried on how loud it would be but man totally nice and 100% better then my V6 eclipse with headers and exhaust in terms of sound....Luckily the turbo muffles all that high pitch sound.........

Car does have new smells which I already assumed but not too bad....

RRE is an awesome shop and only use the best, there flanges are a full half inch thick, and you can pick stainless which is double the cost at $22.00 or regular aluminized steel is $12.00 which is what they recommend...

No SES light yet but it will come on , drove about 20 miles......

So far seat of the pants say top end on the freeway is greatly improved...

I recommend this for any SoCal guys that are worried about cops, since it looks just like a cat and its very shiny, the outside says for off road use only and buffed it out ...

Weird thing is Magnaflow makes these cats legally for rally use,for some reason they use this type of resonator even though its straight through..?
