Bottom line in my book is don't count on a cop not checking you out. They are mostly cowards and won't waste their time with real criminals.

There are some crazy people out there. Back at the turn of the millennium, I walked into an Academy store and threw several cases of ammunition on to the counter. The clerk asked if I wanted any water, preserved foods, or other things that everyone was buying in case "Y2K" caused the world to come to a screeching halt. I simply replied, no, I can get all of that with "this" (quietly pointing to my ammo).
Back on topic, I'm not comfortable running a "test pipe" all of the time for this simple reason. Murphy will get you sooner or later. $2500 is a hefty fine, and would make a nice dent in the cost of some really nice mods. Now with that in mind, I do run cat-less from time to time... but it is not something I'd be comfortable with all the time after the "Fast and the Furious" craze, and the feeding frenzy it has put the public/Law Enforcement in.
PS I've not subscribed to this thread, so any retort someone wishes me to see, would be best served through PM's

Thinking that I think anything wrong of our Armed Forces would be way off as I said I was in the Army and implied it was completely different doing a job there than in the civilian world.
I also haven't put the entire police force into this same category as this particular highway patrol. I have some very good friends that are police and are the exact opposite of this particular incident. Do I believe that the majority of them are just like this particular highway partol that pulled me over, yes I do. I have seen and heard of too much of it in the past few years to think that they are good in general and doing any real job. In a big city where there is real crime to contend with I am sure it is different or even in other areas of the country where it isn't a crime to drive a car 75 mph. Ohio is the absolute worst state I have ever been in for highway patrol. There is one every 10 miles all of them looking for an easy safe traffic stop and it usually ends up being someone who has worked hard to fix up a car the way they felt fit.
Here is another example. The loudest thing on the road is a Harley Davidson motorcycle around here. I am talking LOUD AS HELL. No mufflers on them, obnoxious. I could care less, it's their motorcycle, do what they want with it. BUT you will NEVER see or hear of one of these guys getting pulled over and ticketed or harrassed for being loud. Put a tip on an import or a 3" exhaust on a turbo Buick and it's over.
The entire system is a crock of ****.

Here's what an actual cop had to say...
My best friend's next door neighbor (don't get ahead of me, here - this isn't a "my cousin knows a guy whose brother in law...) is a county cop.
Anyway, I've met and hung out with this female cop dozens of times, and during one of those suburban, having beers in the driveway BS sessions, I asked her why, when they had "block" parties, she didn't invite many (if any) of her cop buddies.
And she said "because I don't like many of them. They're mostly egotistical, bullying, @ssholes." I said "do you think it's sexism?" And she said "I'm not talking about the way they treat me, I'm talking about the way they treat citizens."
End quote. (she went on to make clear that there's a huge difference in a traffic stop with a co-operative driver and a felony chase/belligerent drunk behind the wheel, etc.)
Now, from personal experience, when pulled over (for 78 in a 70) by a West Virginia state trooper in my mom's Accord - I have a car registered to a woman with a different last name, WV tags, and I have a FL drivers license - so I handed him my military ID, too. Not a bribe, not a "hey I wear a uniform, too"kind of thing - I just thought two forms of ID would be nice, under the circumstances... He looked at me like I'd tried to pass him a poop-stained five dollar bill as a bribe, and said with dripping contempt "Whatta I need *this* for?"
Cops, by and large, are just like the lady cop described them. There are good ones, for sure - but my personal experience has been that they are the exception to the rule.

Oooops, got waaaay off topic - the reason I was on this thread to begin with is that I am going cat-less as soon as my parts come in. I have two buddies that run without (one Buschur, the other custom) and they both sound great - loud, but not obnoxiously so.
Sorry - hope this gets the thread back on track.

I have an invidia test pipe I'm about to put on....what kind of smell are we talking about with a test pipe? I was kinda wanting to high flow cat...but was talked into the test pipe...but $100 less seemed like a good deal....i know an extra 100 bucks is worth not getting a $1200 fine, but i'm from indiana...cops don't look for that crap here.
This is a bit off topic...but does anyone have the invidia downpipe? I just installed mine today and its not clearing my lower tie rods at all...not one of them...anyone know what to do...or what I could have done wrong? Its apparently supposed to clear.

in my opinion the Ultimate racing is the best, no cel's and no extra hardware to hook up, don't even need to cut the wires really there is some slack under the passenger seat that can be pulled through so the o2 sensor can reach the bung.

As to the pollution argument, there are three types:
Point sources--power plants, etc
Area Sources--local small businesses--gas stations, etc
Mobile sources
As to NOx, On-road mobile sources including diesel vehicles only make up 34% of the total output. 51% of the total CO comes from on-road mobile sources though this is as high as 95% in some cities--LA for example.
In VA where I live, the largest contributor to poor air quality are the outdated power plants that were grandfathered in uder the Clean Air act. This is not true in Cali where mobile sources make up the overwhelming majority of pollution.
I guess the end result of all this is that I refuse to feel guilty about driving my EVO 2-3 times per month without a cat. I guess If it's a daily driver, you should seriously consider a high flow cat.

i have the perrin 3" cat elimination pipe and i think it wakes the car up abit you will notice a pretty good gain in hp and less lag. the kit i got came with an o2 simulator that was a breeze to put in and it makes it so it doesn't thow a code on you.
