Too much fluid =leaking?
2006 MR.
When filling the transmission fluid I think I put a little more than I was supposed to.
I have a puddle where the DS axle goes onto the output shaft.
It looks like the filler is lower than the output shaft, so assuming the leak is due to too much fluid?
I have the DS Of the car jacked up as high as possible and fluid still came out when I pulled the axle. When I say high I mean like 20 inches LOL

I figured extra fluid was a good thing, but maybe I over did it.
I've never had a leak there. The seal is six months old.
I'm thinking it can't be the seal.

how do you overfill it? I actually tilt the car using the Jack to overfill so it doesn't spill or before I get enough in? I'm just asking in case it wasn't necessarily from overfilling, maybe just simmering loose

Sounds like I must have somehow damaged the brand new seal.

A bit off topic, but do you have worse shift feel when overfilled?
Mine is 03 5-speed, so I know it is not the best shifting tranny, but even with MT-90/MTL(1:2) cocktail (which gives me the best shifting feel), a bit overfilled (maybe 200ml by tilting front more) gave me worse shift, so I jacked up all corners and drained from the filler plug.
I don't think overfilling front/rear diff makes noticeable difference though.

I overfilled the transmission in a DSM I once owned and noticed a difference in shifting.
Yesterday, with the drivers seat out, I was seated on the car carpet tearing the dash apart and looking over at the uncovered shifter I remembered it squeaking sometimes during shifts. Using WD40 I sprayed the shifter and checked to see if I could reproduce the squeak. The squeak was gone but also it shifted easier.

Turned out to be a dented dust cover on the axle. It was pushing on the rubber, "cone shaped" flange that sticks out from the seal which pushed on the seal itself and let fluid out.
At least the new seal was only $9, so Not a huge waste LOL.
I didn't realize how precise those two pieces fit.

Thanks for your feedback.
As for the shifter cage lube, WD40 would be a quick fix, but it may not last long enough, so I recommend to use plastic safe grease like Molykote EM-50L.

I should explain myself better. I wasn't recommending WD40 as a shifter lubricant. It evaporates in a short amount of time. On the other hand, the shifter mechanism was already so coated in grease it looked impossible that it could need more lube. It turns out that wasn't true.
