Turbo decision

Hi,

I'm looking for a bigger turbo, at the moment I'm on 2.0l, wiseco pistons, Eagle rods, hks 272cams, valve Springs and a fp green

Looking for around 550-600whp if possible on pumpgas (102 here = about 94roz)
Full Boost not later than 5000rpm... A bit sooner would be better

I found this 3 turbos
- fp black
- aps gtx3582r internally gated
- full race efr 8374 kit

I know that the full race kit will work best as it comes with exhaust manifold and external wastegate, but will any other turbo (OEM looking would be great) do the job too?

Can't find many informations on the full race and the aps... For the aps just the dyno sheet of Jeff here in the forum.

What do you think?

Thanks
Fabiab

Personally I dislike installing such large turbos on a 2.0, with too much turbo lag, the car isn't nimble enough & no fun to drive. So, I'd suggest an ATP GTX3076R which is the max size i'd consider for a 2.0 & happens to be larger than the green & faster in spool.

FP black will do but I would consider swapping those cams into something more aggressive.

For a 2.0 a smaller turbo would be better suited for response. Have a look into something smaller like a GTX3076R or even a GT Pumps 762GTP turbos, i am running one on a built 2.3 at low boost and the response is crazy.

precision turbos are out of scope?

6262 is a very good option too..

This will spoil faster than the go green and make more power ? It's about the same price and I was set on a green because I myself have a built 2.0 and don't want to have extreme turbo lag. Will it fit the stock exhaust manifold as well?

I decided for a ATP GTX3576R, as it should spool like a GTX3076R maybe a bit more lag but I hope there will be a few ponnys from the larger housing.
The other reason is that if I want to swap to an external gated T4 I can stay with this turbo and just need to change the exhaust housing.

now I need to decide which exhaust manifold ;-/ and then the happiness can begin ;-)

thanks guys for your help!

I doubt you'll make 550 or 600 whp on pump with that turbo. There is a guy in the "dyno" section that claims to have made 600whp with the ATP turbo, but I think its a somewhat dubious claim until proven on a dyno. It MIGHT make it on a dynojet. Keep us posted on what it makes, I'm honestly curious.

yes, but it`s a little bit more complicated. I live in Germany, Dynos here show HP@crank, the problem is our dynos are measuring the power on the wheels for sure but this measured power will be affected by the fastening on the Dyno, if the car is strapped down with much force on the rollers the measured WHP will show a lot lower results, but this is compensated by the drivetrain loss measurement on the roll out phase. Normally I see about 100HP difference on a 500hp@crank EVO to the wheels (about 20-25% drivetrain loss).
the only rollers I know which show not much difference in whp to crank-hp are dynojets, but no AWD Dynojets in my region.

the other thing what I have seen so many times is that setups which do some decent whp numbers on US Forums are normally here the same numbers at crank with exactly the same parts and the same tuner.

so if I think about my evo should do about 550-600whp, I roughly estimate about 580-630hp@crank here.

in other words ;-)
this are my FP GREEN results at 30PSI down to 27PSI at Redline

so I need additional 100-180 hp at crank to be happy with my new setup.

I also orderes some Alcohol injection for some more octane ;-)

EDIT: another thing is that I normally hit the max Power at crank which Garrett mentioned on their website for the turbos with the highest boost.

you going to be disappointed. I bought ATPGT357R, very poor casting, flows terrible. now i have EFR 9174, much much nicer setup, high quality, good power
