Single scroll turbo and big cams. I can see why you feel like the car is missing some punch compared to stock.

Although, with mivec it should be ok.

its probably not bad for an evo.
my last truck had a 4.8, t56, 3.73 and 26" tire. lots more power put down off idle. the evo requires more finesse and im lazy
the evo is a monster once it hits about 3500 though.

if your not drag racing all the time, i would keep oem fd.

especially if you live in a hilly area & DD your car in hilly areas with traffic.

I had a 4.11 with evo9 1st/2nd..... it sucked, as i lived in a hilly area & never experienced any clutch related issues due to taking off until i went with the longer fd + 1/2 combo change.

i recently went back to evo 8 1-4th & 4:53 fd. looking forward to it

good luck, aby

I changed my trans from the stock evo 9 to a new RSP built trans with all evo 8 ratios and 4.11FD. My car made 350/350 at that time. It had better driving manners around town but lost ALOT of snap. With that being the only mod my 1/4 mile times went from 12.3@113 to 12.9@107. Similar tune/boost/tires on pump gas.

there are three or four of these back to backs around evo m. been saying it for years. car is flat faster in every gear with a stock final drive. only exception is big huge turbos that are so laggy they actually make more tq to make up for the losses from lower final drive change.

Would a 100mm crank change your mind on this? Although, I know Aby has a stroker on his car and he went back to OEM.

i would think the stroke would help but the reality is, its still a 2.0-2.3 liter motor pushing around 3200-3600lbs. it needs the leverage.

My 94MM helped things alot and a 100MM would be even better for the 4.11FD.

The 88MM 4.11 combo is pretty lethargic off boost . My car slowed down alot with a stock turbo and a Red, a big turbo would be even worse off boost.

I am basically NOT a fan of lower final drives. as mentioned first it makes the car slower in every gear. It also makes the car far harder to launch. I mean try launching from second gear. lower final is pretty similar. its death to your clutch. for me pretty much the ONLY reason to go for lower final drive is top speed. like if 185 isnt enough and you need to go 220. other than that they are just huge mistake if you ask me. my evo 1 gearing with 2.3 red is basically running the equivalent of the evo 8 4.85 final drive that came in from evo 4-6 RS. its running the stock 3.9 rear end. I could easily switch to US version 3.54. but I have no interest. its a flat blast with the quick gearing. super easy to launch on a single plate clutch. longer gearing is more pleasant to daily drive around slow and normal. but if you press the go pedal and thats the thrill you seek, shorter final wins hands down.
