I looked at the FP 54 but didn't really consider it since it's a JB turbo.. Since I'm after the quickest spool time with my power target, I'd rather spend the extra $1K on the BB! Let me know if I'm missing something on the FP54 though! They mention something about response time being good on it, but don't really go in to detail on how it could be better than a BB..
I think right now the toss up is between the Green or the Red BB with the MHI housing..

You have a 2.3, go with the red. Look up Abacus's dyno thread, he has a 2.2 (94mm crank, ro really a 2.15) with a red, it makes silly power, and awesome torque down low. Your 2.3 will pick up a few hundred rpm's earlier.

I think its a good idea to get BB for roadcourse days for sticky tires/oil pressure. Ask FP what they think.
I would also get the Red over the FP54 since the 2.3 will have more backpressure then a 2.0 and needs a larger Turbine wheel that the Red has
Red= TW Measurements - 67.3MM Inducer / 58.8MM Exducer
FP 54= TW Measurements - 60.8MM Inducer / 54MM Exducer
The 2.3 is also not as good for VE (at least on paper) so you don't want more backpressure to deal with. Some of the examples I've seen have a torque spike and then it falls instead of being carried thru out the band.
Not a bad idea to get the wastegate entry ported for better boost control on either with the MHI housing. I would also recirculate the crankcase pressure with -10 lines and get a tall baffled can . A built engine will move more vapor then a stock one due to the aftermarket pistons.
I have not tested the Fp54 but I feel the Red is a very well balanced turbo on a mivec 2.0 or 2.2+

Now, finding one without having to wait 6 weeks for FP to build/ship one is the trick...
I would just put the order in for a new one from FP and be patient. I also would not pay for them to port it, what they do is pretty minimal/basic gasket matching. Send the turbine housing and the manifold to Curt brown for porting.
Finally found some time to spend on the build. Since I last posted, I've had my old head cleaned, machined for flatness, installed new Inconel exhaust valves, stainless intake valves, new bronze guides, new seals, 5 angle valve job, and pressure tested.
I finally bolted the engine and head together today with new L19 ARP studs. Some pics so far:
As letsgetthisdone said, it's all about the spool! Two primary uses for the car:
- street driven
- road racing (technical tracks like Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, etc)
Although the block will handle 800-900WHP without a problem (and the transmission is a Shep-built 6-speed, built for 600whp), I'm aiming for 500-550whp max. The car will never see a drag strip, so I'm not looking for massive power at the expense of response. My key metrics are response and reliability (30min+ sessions at high load needs some good headroom!)
Also, looking stock-ish is important to me (because of where I live )
The car will also be running a FiTronic system for smooth E85-to-91 blending (been living with regular dual maps for a while and it's a pain!), so most of the power will be made at E85 (although I'm considering adding a 110 unleaded race gas map too, since E85 is impossible to get near CA race tracks!)
Ronaldo9 - yes, I would consider others. I was looking at Blouch, but it seems that the Dom 1.0XTR won't hit my power goals and the 2.0XTR is much slower to spool than the FPGreen? Any suggestions for other candidates appreciated! Even though cost is a factor, I'd consider something insanely priced too if it did what I wanted!

I just wanted to note that this is not correct. If you are still evaluating turbos, check out mrfred's thread on the CBRD BBK-3B aka the Blouch 2.0 XTR. I think this turbo would be a very good option for your needs.

Funnily enough this is the exact turbo I started looking in to. The FP red is difficult to get with the MHI housing, so I started looking at others. I emailed Blouch a few days ago, but still no response to my questions

MAP has it on their website, but it has the same info as the Blouch site - nothing! (on the Blouch site it literally just has a buy button - no info whatsoever!). My days are pretty busy and I end up not calling in time (especially since they are EST timezone). Not sure if anyone here has the answers to:
1) Does the 2.0XTR come with wastegate actuator? All the pics show it on there, but I wasn't sure. I'm guessing not, but just wanted to confirm. If it doesn't, is the OEM one fine to use, or is something else needed..
2) Does the 2.0XTR use an MHI hot side, or some clone?
3) Is the 2.0XTR a twin scroll? I believe it is from the pics, but no spec list so not 100% sure..
4) Does the turbo come with a new oil line, or do I just use my OEM one? Anything else in terms of piping?
5) Is this a true drop-in, or do I need anything else?
6) What are the flow rates for this turbo?

I comes with a WGA.
According to MAP, it uses an MHI hotside (there were previous posts about it).
It is a twin scroll.
You can use the OEM oil feed line.
It's a drop in 9 turbo. So you need the Evo 9 water lines, oil line (maybe?) and Jpipe if you have an 8.
When CBRD was selling it as the BBK-3B, they said it flowed 57-58lb/min.
