Question Need help fuel cut at 18-19psi

Guys I am having trouble with my EVO. I have Stage 2 Bushur mods and it ran 12.8@107 mph but when I turn up the boost to 18 -20lbs I get fuel cut. I can run the 1/4 mile fine but when I accel from 40-70 in 4th about 4000 i hit fuel cut. I had an idle problem and put another stock BOV on and it cured that problem and I thought I had a intercooler leak but the car runs great at 15-16 psi. Any thoughts and are they any shops worth while in Maryland,PA that can dynoflash my ECU if need be( daily drive the car and can not afford to be without it for a few days). I love the car but this problem has me frustrated. I thought about taking it to Jeff Hill ( 2.5 hours) but do not want to get charged an arm and a leg for something that I can fix. Please let me know

Sincerely,
John Staats

The only shop that I know of remotely close to you is Turbotrix in NJ that does flashes.

That's an awefully low amount of boost to be hitting fuel cut.

I hate fuel cut. What I did to get around it was put in an AFC with 650cc injectors. Since you're lying to the computer under WOT to run the larger injectors, you wind up telling it you're flowing 15-16% less airflow; which means, you're now 15-16% below the fuel cut threshold, all things being equal. That's kinda a temporary fix. I'd like to have my ECU reflashed for the larger injectors have them raise fuel cut considerably, or eliminate it all together.

Your gauge may be inaccurate if you are hitting fuel cut at 18-19 psi. I've gone up to 23psi in 5th gear and not hit fuel cut. That was when my ECU was stock. Now that my ECU flashed to raise the fuel cut I've gone as high as 25psi on a cold evening and not hit fuel cut. My suggestion is get flashed to raise the fuel cut and you might want to check if your gauge is accurate too.

That Buschur intakes sucks a lot of air and fuel cut is not out of line. Did you double check you SAFC-II settings? And where did you tap your boost gauge? (which vacuum line).

I do not run a boost gauge on my car all the time I just stick it out the window. I will try a new boost gauge this weekend. Tim thought I had a itnercooler leak but I can not see that being the problem now since my car idles fine and also ran that 12.8's with a stock clutch. I watch the boost gauge and it hits 20 psi and holds and spikes would not be the problem. I will mess with the car this weekend and put a different boost gauge on the car. I appreciate all the replies.

Hey ,,

To have the boost cut removed, rev limiter raised and the top speed limiter taken out is only 150.. If your new boost gauge doesnt work, i dont think 150 is an arm and a leg. Good luck

If your vac. tee (i.e. your boost/vacuum reference line) is tapped in after the IC then your guage and your readings are correct. There is at least a 3-5psi pressure drop across the intercooler so you will see less boost after the air is cooled. Unfortunately, the ECU does not see this and still registers the preesure before the IC, hence triggering the boost/fuel cut option because the ECU is still registering a 23-25 psi....at least this was the problem I was facing.

Hope it helps.

Hmmmm

Well the reason I do not run a boost gauge is because I take clients in my car and it would look pretty weird. I run my boost gauge off my Blow off Valve and its running 17psi. So I am assuming that I need to put my boost gauge off the turbo to see the boost is running. Is there really a 3-5 psi accross the intercooler that seems a lot for a factory intercooler. That could be my problem and that car runs very well for 17 psi which is 20psi at the turbo. Thanks for the help have to wait to the weekend until i get a chance to work on my car. Mario thanks for the help.
