Wiseco piston ring gap

Sooo quick question.. If my machine shop says my block is. .02" over and I bought 20 over pistons and my ring gap is like a full hundredth over what it's supposed to be, are there larger rings I can buy or is this a situation where I need to go 40 over and buy new pistons?

Cause I'm not about to do that..

*EDIT*
.005 is not the ring gap... Its what you multiply the bore by to get the ring gap. Helps if you actually read the directions.

p.s. Im just really glad I don't have to sell my car because "I just can't even" anymore and that I can proceed with my build.
thanks you guys for putting up with my crisis post.

Usually when you get new pistons the kit will include new rings that are the same size as the pistons, and you go from adjusting the ring gap from there, if they did not inclide it (which would be weird) yes you can buy the rings, they should be fairly inexpensive, probably $40-60.

check that you got the right rings... I got a wrong set of rings with my wisecos..
Ideally the ring gap should be smaller than spec and you have to file it to size..

Yeah they appear to be the correct size. They say 855 on the ring box.
I don't have a dial bore gauge either or I would measure the bore.

So your machine shop bored it .20 over? You need 20 over pistons and 20 over rings. Then the ring end gap must be measured, by putting rings in cylinder and run them down half way with piston dome, then check gap with feeler guage.

yes, yes, got those.. did that.. read the directions wrong..

So instead of .0055" ring gap you're supposed to multiply the bore (in inches) by that to get 0.017" - 0.018" which my rings were coming in at about 0.013" so as it turns out. I'm good... Just stupid lol.

I always thought it was funny how the cheapest parts in a motor are the most important to protect (bearings and piston rings).

no kidding right. If those had been as off as I thought it was going to be a lot of money to make them right, and I was not about to go through tearing what little I have done apart to get it done.

I was real close to listing the car... Been looking at G37s coupes lately, got me on a hair trigger.

what bearings did you end up going with? I hear lots of crap about kings, but the people that use them SWEAR by them, apparently they are a lot more consisten in clearence than other bearings, but I will soon find out since I get 2 sets for my build.

I went Kings. I did a little bit of research on them, a lot of guys in the LS world use them.. I figure you're going to hear more about the bad than the good though. People who don't have problems don't tend to yell about how good something works.

The other thing is, there are so many things that could go wrong in an engine. People are going to want to blame shoddy clearances or using bad oil or whatever on something other than what they did or didn't do. Bearings that not a lot of people in the Evo world use, seem to be a prime scapegoat.

In other words I take a lot of it with a grain of salt. We'll see though, my engine probably wont see more power than what an HTA71 can put to it for a long time.

IIRC, I ended up doing mine at .018" My block is .02 over as well. I have about 15k on mine, good compression and no smoke.

Haven't dynoed the car yet as i got a little problem with exhaust valve leaking, doing +1mm overside valves to correct.
