Diamond race cars billet steering rack

Comes with their subframe for 1850 shipped but has anyone run one? It's claimed for street/track. Not sure I want to mess with the evo's already fantastic steering feel...

What for? Drag? Wouldn't touch manual steering on a 3000 pound car except when going in a straight line ....

I assume you read this: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...s-lighter.html

It actually steers well and easy even though it deletes the power steering. I just installed one on a customers Evo.

But do you want to forgo the quick steering ratio and max caster the Evo clearly thrives on .... unless your focus is on drag.

They geared the rack and pinion differently to allow for much easier steering at the cost of only half a circle on the steering wheel. Very worth it if you ask me, but I don't have the $$ for something like that. For a full track car and ultimate lightness, a must have.

On non-power assist/manual steering will get too heavy with huge amounts of caster - caster directly effects steering effort ... making it very unpleasant to maneuver at low speeds.

And gaining 1/2 a turn at the wheel for a road racing car is pure silliness. Usually manufacturers make faster racks for road race/rally. It really affects dynamic quality of a car much more than a few pounds of weight - drag being an exception.

Part of the reason the Evo is so good is its fast steering rack. With Subaru you have to buy a special rack to get a quick steering ratio; on the Evo 6 RS there was a still a special quick rack, the ratio which later got put into general production IIRC.

Caster affects steering because when you steer a car with caster you are raising and lowering the height of the front of the vehicle.

It only increases the steering wheel angle a half turn because it also turns the front wheels less overall. The steering ratio is considerably slower. Stock is like 12.5:1 (12.5* of steering wheel angle for 1* tire angle) and if I recall, this rack takes it up to like 16:1. Total steering angle is a few degrees less.

Perfectly fine though for a car heavily biased towards drag racing.

As for how difficult it would be for corners, it's a big balance between car weight, caster, scrub, tire size, and how sticky the tires are.
