did bad thing (reved the piss out of it)
I was doing some work in my car and had the bottom half of the dash out. Once everything was hooked Up I wanted to test to make sure nothing was wrong. I started the car, it imediately shot to redline! I shut the key off immediately, but the car stayed running because of the turbo timer
I dropped the e-brake and the car shut down. total running time around 10 seconds. I of course though I hosed something, but then found the pannel pushing the gas pedal.
I don't think this will be a problem, I started the car a few min later and let it warm up and took it for a spin.
just had an oil change on monday, so atleast it has fresh oil 1800miles on the clock.
anybody think I will have problems? or did I just get off easy?
It has been my experience that i'd hear something if it was worn or broken, but these things sound a little funny at idle anyway.
Thanks,
Brian (yeah I know...Should have been paying attention)

I think you're greatly underestimating the strength of the 4G63.
Hell, Boost Solutions accidentally hit 42 PSI with their T51R on pump gas and when the engine was torn down, the engine builder said it looked like the pistons were brand new.
If you really want piece of mind, do a compression test. I doubt you'll have any problems.

Should be fine, but it's not recommended you rev your engine into the stratosphere with no engine load. Everything is meant to be under load in those conditions, so clearances are proper and everything is stable. Without that load, any one little thing could go wrong and wreak havoc on the rest of your engine internals.
There's an actual warning about this in the manual for any bimmer with an M engine (specifically the S54).

So,
Suppose you have experienced fuel cut (for one reason or another). After the situation, if you engine runs strong / all seems well, any possibility you did serious damage / shortened engine life ?
