Cold start slow crank

Ever since the weather has dropped to 40F degrees or 31F like this morning my car has been cranking rather weak. Today it cranked rather weaker, she had been sitting outside in the cold for over 2 days.

It fires up after a couple cranks every time, but on cold starts you can hear it crank slowly and the dash lights dim weak. If the weather is warm it cranks normally, or if I shut it down for a little bit and go back out she will wire right up. I'm also running Mobil 1 HM 10w-40.

My battery was replaced this summer, it's a Kinetik mini battery. Voltage is 14.. with the car running and when off fully charged it's 12..

I know it's somewhat normal for having a slow crank during the winter, the oil being cold and what not because my '90 winter truck does a similar thing.

I was thinking maybe the starter but idk never had one fail on me, then I remembered my 2g talon did the same thing last winter before I sold it.

Maybe it's a Mitsu thing? Lol

Any help is appreciated!

The CCA on the battery aren't really up to the task it seems. Mine cranks slow in the cold too, but I know the battery is on it's way out.

Yeah I thought about that too. Not sure on exact CCA but it's like 5XX iirc. Thanks

Have someone crank the car and hold a volt meter on the battery. If your in the low 10's while cranking I would say the battery is not doing so hot.

I'm still on the OG battery that came with the car. It's starting to get weak on those < 30*F cold after work. Normal after 5 years.

Just replaced my oem battery in my 05 MR about 15 minutes ago. It tested fine after driving but was on the edge in morning at 19 degrees.

Running a mini battery here in PA. Got back from CO after a week and the battery is dead. Putting it on a charger and will see if she has any life left in her. Otherwise I'm going to have to get a new battery.

Ur battery problem.. Try not to use a mini battery. Get it changed. Though it frees up a nice amount of space but its not worth it IMO

It seems to be a battery issue, check the voltage, electric components have the tendency to fail in the cold.
