Evo IX 5th-Gear Grind
5th jdm is shorter than non jdm so shifting into a 5th jdm will have less rpm drop, faster shift and longer synchro life if shifting fast, horrible for highway tho personally i think that's auto x and track only. I prefer my long 5th gear

Are the synchros readily available or we have to wait ?

Just wanted to report back. I went ahead and switched to Red Line MT-90, and the grind is completely gone! Unless I really take it to a high RPM and do not delay the shift. But it always did that..
The car drives perfectly as it once did now going into 5th. Seems like the 5-speed trans doesn't like the Amsoil so much.
Anyway, this will at least hold me off for a bit till I am ready for a rebuild!

Your sarcasm is noted.
As I said before, the trans itself had no issues since I purchased last year until I changed the fluid with Amsoil. Is the syncro starting to wear out? Sure. When the winter comes, trans will be pulled off and sent for a refresh.
For now, it is driving exactly how it has been all year and will get me through the summer with no issues.

If a different fluid would get me by, it's very tempting.

In my post? Not sure how you got sarcasm out from any of it. I have a few HPDE and a TA event I want to do this year. My 6spd took a crap and I'd really like to make the events. Not sure I can get the 5spd rebuilt/installed in time... so I'm tempted to put it in now and fix later.

So sorry lol. I'm a tard sometimes.
I would try the fluid first... but this will be my third swap and if doesn't work.. then I have to pull it a fourth time. I'm really sick of working on the car. You are lucky... it's on the car so an easy experiment. My trans is used, so I'm not even sure how bad the grind is.
I think I'll just wait. Patience is NOT one of my strong suits LOL

Meh. Everything I post gets taken the wrong way. My local SCCA group hates me because they think I'm always making fun of them LOL. I'm used to it.

-6spd broke.
-Replaced with 5spd. hated it, sold it.
-Bought another 6spd. worked great until THE DAY I got to the track and started grinding 3/4.
-Searched for a legit 5spd, but couldn't find one
-Bought a local 5spd for $400 with a "grind in 5th". From what I can tell, they all do, eventually.
That's why I'm tired of messing with transmissions LOL. I won't even get into the engine problems I was dealing with, at the same time. I'm gonna have to be patient and do this one right. To be honest, I'm looking forward to fixing it. Rebuilding a trans is the only thing I haven't tried on this car. At least it's easier than building an engine (long story, there..).

Yeah, it sucks that the 6-speeds are such glass-cannons. My MR already came with a 5-Speed swap done to it. So I never had the chance of driving a 6-speed trans.
( People say the shifting feels much better then the 5 speed, as the 5-speed itself feels really notchy compared to the 6-speed. If this is true, I'm glad I haven't driven a 6-speed because I'm pretty happy with my 5-speed lmao ).
Since the trans is already out of the car, I'd personally just have it sent out // rebuilt. I know when I sent my DSM trans out some time ago, the turn around time wasn't bad at all.
Sounds to me like $400 is a good price on a used trans. But you are taking the risk of going by the sellers word. He said it was just 5th, but for all you know there could be more wrong with it. I personally wouldn't chance it. Especially since it would have to come down yet again anyway.
