Play in my axle! HELP
Play in my axle! HELP
Hi my name is chris and ive recently acquired a 05 "base" evo. I got the car cheap per se so now I'm currently getting it mechanically sound. one issue that me and my parts guy are having, is trying to find the correct lable for the part that I'm in search of. so I have a slight shake/jerk and whinning/"grinding" noise when I don't give the car enough gas when getting into first. upon its first oil change I decided to shake it down lube everything and nit pick the **** out of the car. in doing so I found my lf axle has play on the tranny side. I work on cars so I'm familiar enough but still very green in my opinion. ive heard the cause of play in the axle is due to an axle "bushing" (called many things by different companies) when I called Mitsubishi they couldn't find this "axle bearing" listed. I ended up getting a center differential bearing dubbed to be the part I needed by one of mitusbishis techs there. I just recently tried to do a little research as to the location of the center differential bearing and it seems to be on the trans side going into the transfer case. so I'm not sure if I have the right part and if I do, will I have to open the trans to replace that part? to me the hole in which the axle slides into is not large enough to let a bearing that size out. and to be honest if it does have to come apart I probably wont do it, id like my car to move again. If anyone has any knowledge of the part I need or verification that its the part I need could you please help me out. if not id greatly appreciate any input or ideas as to what needs to be replaced. (I understand that there should be "some" play in the axle but mine is excessive)
