Best quiet exhaust w/o losing performance?

Hello everyone,

i currently have a Tomei Ti Expreme catback and been daily driving it for 3yrs. Thought i would get used to it but god damn that boy is still loud but sounds so nice. So does anyone have any recommendations for a quieter exhaust without losing performance and not sound like a civic? Or even better any way to tone down the note. Thanks guys.

NOTE: Car is a EVO 9

Open pipe with ear plugs. Lol
But seriously, I don't think you'll get a good answer since everyone's definition of quiet will be different.

I kind of have a wet dream for having a custom fabbed dual tip exhaust like the ets v2 for the X. I think that would quiet things down some without losing too much performance. That said, I'm basing that off of absolutely nothing.

What do you have in front of the cat back (Test pipe, high flow cat, 3” downpipe etc.. ) ?

Also , how quiet you want to go ? Scale of 1-10 , with 10 being factory stock quiet and 1 being straight pipe no mufflers.

The Tanabe Medallion touring is a great exhaust. Quiet, and doesn't inhibit horsepower.

MAP Stainless Dump/Downpipe Combo // Invidia 76mm Test pipe. I would like atleast a 6 and high 7. Right now its atleast a 2 lol it literally shakes the place up a bit.

No, I don't like quiet exhausts lol. But I've driven a few cars with it. And I've seen them make power.

The tenable medallion tapers inside the muffler. If I remember correctly it was something around 2.65" . I know this because I had the cat back and I measured it by trimming a peice of cardboard to slide in and measure the inside of the muffler . The Tenabe was very quiet as just a cat back . Once I added test pipe it became loud for my taste .

You could try adding a 6" muffler where the test pipe is. See how you like the exhaust loudness with that before making other changes. But to reach a 7 you need to probably change your catback as the muffler on your current setup I believe does not quiet the car enough . I was able to achieve a high 7 scale of quietness by running a 6" center muffler and buschur catback that came with a 7" rear magnalflow muffler .

I have the Tanabe Medallion Touring on my car, and I can still hear it from inside the house a little bit, but compared to most of my friends modified cars, its on the quieter side. I am looking at getting a Tomei because it seems like one of the few exhausts that keeps the evo's "growl" so to speak. Preferably I would like to go louder as I go faster. A friend of mine has a tanabe on his "sleeper" evo and if he doesnt have the cutout open it sounds like mine even though he makes about twice the power

Edited for clarity

I've seen people putting two instead of 1 just like you did but its wayy to much work to be doing that for me and even that they said it only made only a little of a difference lol did that help you with noise at all?

Hmm i've yet to see a Evo here in the Bay Area in CA that has a tanabe exhaust yet or maybe i just havent met one. Ill look more into it but just from youtube vid it doesnt seem much of a difference from my Tomei.

"has one" as in a tomei or a tanabe ? i believe Tomei has one of the best if not THE best sounds for evo in exhaust lol but its too obnoxious so im gonna have to compensate for these CHP and Cali officers to get off my ***. (state reff is no joke)
