I'm using a side bumper exhaust that the end is connected via a V-band...if I need to remove the bumper I usually remove the elbow and then remove the bumper...but the last 2 V-band bolts have snapped when removed! They are stainless steel and quality V-band...is there something I'm missing here!
You might over torquing it. If you do it bends ever so slightly and makes it easier to break. Use anti seize when you install or look for another brand of clamp. Just cause the clamp quality is nice doesn't mean the actual T-bolt is. Alot of times I'll just grab T's off old ones to keep for when they do break.
It's because it's stainless. Stainless doesn't like being made into threads and when both fasteners (the bolt and nut) are stainless the threads will gall extremely fast and the bolt inevitably shears. The easiest solutions would be to use anti seize on the threads and change the locknut out for one made from mild steel.
