Hey there guys,
So i have an evo9 mr ,6 speed that's swapped to 5.
My center diff grenaded and i'm looking for a replacement .
Id like to hear if you guys have any experiences with certain ones , if there's anything for me to look out for that might not matchup
I had the OEM RS diff for a few years. I never launched the car with it, but it performed really well on gravel and snow. I now have the Wavetrac diff and I love it. Only added it because I wanted a tougher diff so I can launch the car if needed. The Wavetrac seems to rotate the car easier, specially on gravel IMO.
I also launch the car repeatedly and its held up like a champ. No issues while daily driving it either, the car performs as it should.
You guys sure you're talking about the center diff and not the front diff?
AFAIK no one runs anything other than the factory center diff. The only people I know that make/made center diffs are Cusco and Quaife and IIRC the split on them is 35/65, might be wrong about that though.
We have 3 diffs. The front diff is in the tcase, the center diff is in the trans and the rear diff is in the rear end. The center diff controls the front/rear power split.
There are aftermarket center diffs. They are very uncommon and next to no one uses them. I've searched and there are a few posts on this forum about people who have used them but most of them are older posts.
The 03-04 has a VCU (viscous center diff) which is a pure mechanical system, the 05+ evos have ACD. The stock VCU has a 50/50 split but aftermarket units often have different splits. I believe the center unit Cusco used to offer had a 35/65 split. A car with ACD wouldn't benefit from an aftermarket center diff but the earlier cars might, depending on how it's setup.

Their is a center diff. It's in the trans. It's controlled. It's called the ACD.... Active CENTER Differential.
Shouldn't it be named like this
1. Front diff inside trans
2. Center Diff inside the tcase (ACD active center diff)
3. Rear diff in the rearend
This just seems logical to me Ive been wrong before though.
