AirTrek 4g63T Block Strength

Hi all,
I am getting an Airtrek 4g63t , previously used Evo 7 GTA block.
Can any one confirm if these two engine blocks and internals (Piston, con rods and crank) are the
same strength wise ? Aiming for 550 whp.

The rods are skinnier so it's not as strong. I don't have any proof to back this claim but I am sure someone will chime in with it. Otherwise, it's a cheap way to get a USDM Evo back on the road.

550whp is pushing a stock block HARD. Even an Evo 4G. Rule of thumb is 400lbs/ft is about the maximum "safe" limit for torque. You can push this envelope of course, but you're decreasing the life span accordingly. This might be fine for a long time on a weekend warrior with a large turbo to keep the torque to the higher RPMS. However, any way you slice it 550whp is going to expire that bottom end in a relatively short period of time compared to keeping it around the 450whp range. Of course there is a lot more that can be said on the subject, but I'll leave it at that.

I understand that . Now, is there actually any difference in Airtrek and evo7 block strength wise ?

Depends on the year. Some early ones use an older style of piston form an Evo 5 I believe. Others came with the newer Evo 7 piston. No oil squirters either, if that's a concern.

Are the internals the same in the newer 4G's in Evo 8s and 9s? i have had evos in my area lasting quite awhile on higher horsepower with stock internals (500-600whp) and just curious about it for my own. i had a subscriber mention this thread in a comment so i figured i'd ask you directly.

People are running airtek blocks in their evo 8s successfully. In terms of overall strength I would assume it's the same since the block castings are almost identical, but an ultrasonic depth tester will tell you how thick the cast iron is.

Thank you for response. I am wondering because I have one of those blocks and planning on using it on high boost evo. I hope casting is same thickness as evo.
