Wont do above or below 27 psi

So here’s my issue with my 03 evo 8

the car was running properly, until yesterday i noticed reducing wgdc does nothing nor does increasing it.
so I thought maybe its the boost controller

i plugged the actuator hose to keep the wastegate shut, did nothing, car still doing 25, 26 or 27 psi on third and even fourth gear.

wgdc at 0 and also at 100 doesnt do anything as well, same boost levels. I’m totally puzzled, someone help ☹️

Sounds like something is wrong with the wastegate actuator.

Okay, so I connected a direct vaccum hose from the turbo to the actuator to run on spring pressure, and I’m getting 10 psi which means the actuator works.

i have changed the piping for the ebcs as well. Problem persists. At this point I feel its either the connection to the grimmspeed ebcs or the ebcs itself.

is there a way i can test the connector with a multimeter to confirm if the ebcs is getting voltage?

I think the ebcs was hooked up wrong, I’ll check and update tonight

The EBCS is two wires, and polarity doesn't matter, like an injector. It's just solenoid. Applying power opens it. So, you likely have a dead EBCS. It happens. Be glad it didn't stuck shut and run pulled wastegate line boost...lol

okay, so ebcs was hooked up wrong, fixed the issue, now I can play with my boost levels with the duty cycle tables..

But, however, it wont still do more than 27-28 psi even when actuator pipe is pulled to allow to free boost.
I havent done a boost leak test yet, i'll do this next and update the thread,
looks like my turbo is actually pushing way more but coz of leaks, i only get 28psi max,
boost gauge and map sensor are both tapped on the intake manifold.

thanks for your help so far

By hooked up wrong do you mean the boost reference lines?

Plumbing the grimmspeed is not the same as the solenoid, so that diagram doesn't apply.

So i did a boost leak test, 30 psi it drops to 0 psi in like 8 seconds or less.. i can not find any leaks in any of the couplers, clamps, bov, vaccum hoses..

now what next

That's about normal. Probably just going through the engine. If you can pressurize it to 30psi and don't hear leaks, just run it. Even leaks as small as throttle body shaft seals can make it hard to pressurize past 15-20psi, and I have a 160 gallon 165psi compressor lol.

Lol, so what exactly could be making the turbo just push 28 psi max.

Ive been having my dipstick pop out recently, I’ll check my oil catch tomorrow, probably blocked or something

Wastegate could need more preload. But I don't see why you're trying to run that much boost unless you have racefuel or E85. And with 720cc injectors its def not on E85.

I’m only making sure that the turbo works perfectly coz im at 100 wastegate duty cycle and its doing 28psi.
im okay with 28 psi but not okay with 100 wgdc on a stock turbo
