Driveshaft Options?

I'm getting the classic clunking/slapping sound from my driveshaft getting in and out of the driveway. Rather than try and salvage the "non-serviceable" driveshaft or replace it with the same problematic OEM one, I'm looking to go aftermarket.

Does anyone run this DSS one?

How is fitment? Were there any modifications needed for the install?

Are there better choices out there?

Those shafts in the links above are too heavy for the price. For the money, I'd just get a used low mileage OEM one - Chris Barnett on Facebook is a good guy to deal with who parts out lots of Evo's and you might try looking him up. I'm sure he has some spare shafts.

Or find yourself a used AWD 2 piece one that weighs 26 pounds instead. Or have a local shop fab you one.

Thanks. I believe this is the same shaft I found. These are good? I'll have to see if I can find some reviews on them.

The problem I have going with OEM is, my car only has 60k miles on it & the driveshaft
Is already total garbage.

The sounds may be classic but are you sure it is the driveshaft? At double your mileage the u-joints in my driveshaft were getting a little notchy but no play that would make noise.

The stock driveshaft is anything but problematic. Are you sure it not just the rear diff clunking?

I've got some slightly undersize (too short) brake pads on the rear of my car and they make a clunk anytime the wheel rotation direction changes.

My driveshaft has been checked and the rear portion is shot. If it had serviceable U-joints to begin with like most normal cars have, I wouldn't need to replace the whole driveshaft. This is problematic, get it?

This is the shaft I have that’s going into my build. You asked for options and I haven’t seen anyone mention it.

I think this is the first time I've heard of an OEM shaft actually wearing out. And I know a few guys that have close to and/or over 300k miles on their CT9a's...

I've had to have the lobro joint rebuild on a few cars. But that's only the cause the boot tore. It didn't actually wear out.

As in you're thinking about it or you have it installed and in use already?

I have purchased it, and it is in my possession. It is not installed on the car currently. Shell is waiting to go into the paint booth then reassembly begins.

I would double check the drive shaft bolts first, if they’re loose, you’ll get a clunking sound.
