Little help with hesitation...

I seem to have an intermitent hesitation problem when giving 3/4 to full throttle application between 3 and 4k RPM while going uphill. Its almost like the fuel has a strobe effect on it and makes the car shake between those RPM'S. It stops after 4K and pulls hard though. My car is brand new (bought 4/14/04) with 8 miles on it (now has 73 miles), but it is an '03 and I'm thinking it may be the fuel filter or pump that is clogged up due to the car sitting for so long. If anyone has a suggestion or link to this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!

It did it as I pulled off the lot from the dealer while at partial throttle (normal acceleration) and on the way home on the highway while accelerating from an onramp at normal speed. There is also a funny smell from the car while driving and when I let it cool down (like a burning smell).
I don't drive like an a$$hole and the car has never been over 5k rpm so NO, I DIDN'T DISREGARD THE BREAK-IN PERIOD!!! I just think there was issues with the car before I even picked it up. I called the dealer and they said to bring the car in and I'll see what they say.
