Car won’t go into gear while running

I have an evo 9 se the car appears to have an exedy clutch from the inspection tunnel)
the car will go into all gears when car is off but when the car is running it won’t completely go into gear
if I try to put it into first it won’t go completely into gear but the car will go forward (while still putting slight pressure into going to first gear) very slowly same thing happens when I go into reverse all attempt to put it in the reverse it won’t completely go in but the car will roll back very slowly
Any thoughts or what I should test ?

If you can only shift gears with the engine off, but not with the engine running that means that the clutch does not disengage. You must pull out gearbox and clutch and see from inside.

I had this problem in my car a few years back, the tuner would adjust the clutch pedal as much as he can. Eventually you will run out of adjustment and tranny will need to be pulled and checked as mentioned by previous post

Edit. In my case, I also had the Exedy twin and it required a rebuild. So not to scare you but start saving some money in case, like $2k unless you DIY.

Same here. I made rebuild myself, but it took part of my sanity in return Not easy job for DIY

Here is my topic about choosing the right clutch. At the very end there are pictures of my clutch after disassembly. I had to replace both discs.

Have you verified your slave cylinder is moving when you push the clutch pedal down? Was this a fresh clutch install or did this issue appear over night.

have that same problem. it turns out that the pressure plate was the culprit. though your case may be different.
