Hey I'll take all of the advice I can from people that have been in the game long enough to know what works and what doesn't!
I bet you're gonna have an absolute blast all over town with that setup. I did do a little digging on the HTA71 recently just out of curiousity and it seems to do exactly what you're looking for. Can't remember how much of a bump the compressor gets over stock wheel but from what I've gathered it moves a fair amount more air. E85? Are the GSC S2's super popular with these cars? I was planning to snag some Kelford 272's, wanted to stray away from the billet stuff as I've rounded a lobe with the S2's in my 2J a few years back. Although that could've been related to a casting area in the head. I think it was Jay that made a video when he was still at Real Street about that but maybe it was someone else. Either way, I plan on sticking to cast cams from here on out.
Do you plan to autox the car with that setup or just for the stock spool fun factor?

I actually am thinking of staying stock evo 9 cams. That’s why I didn’t build the head as yet. The head is still completely stock (167k miles) but freshly machined.
ive never had an issue with the head and stock cams. Now you’re making me think to keep it that way lol.
kinglloyd, the S2s are the go to cam on these cars. They will outperform the kelfords in spool and up top. There are some back to back graphs in the dyno sections showing this. I would seriously consider them for your build. I have never heard of the rounding issue you are referring to on the 4g.
jahtoot, I would consider cams on your setup as well. Something like the S2s will really help that 71 hold a little more top end and not cost you spool.

Fair enough Schuhie! I'm not trying to put out any misinformation or anything, I trust your knowledge. Happy to hear they don't have that issue with the 4G's, they do sound amazing. Quicker spool is what I'm after and if the S2's are the best option I guess I'll have to reconsider. Just some PTSD ya know lol

Yea, they are great. Its what I run and what most guys run. Totally understand not wanting to build with something after having a problem lol.
The s2 will push the powerband a little more right. A stroker motor with a FP red is a pretty good combo. Will spool quick make good trq and power. Lots of fun to drive. A black is fun but yea little more lag but make 600HP.
If i was gonna to it all over again i would do something like a 2.3 with a red or black. Some days i think about selling my black for a red. Hope this helps some.
I am getting ready to install my 2.4LR 4G64 FP Black HTZ MHI setup on my Evo 9. I went with R2 cams. I am interested to see how it spools.
Those R2s are interesting. I know they were made for stroker setups but I have seen some results on 2.0s that are interesting. There just isn't enough S2 vs R2 data out there to really see the difference.
Make sure to post up your build and results in the dyno section! More data is always helpful for others trying to make decisions on builds man!

Will do. If I don’t like the spool, I intend to put in my S2 set instead.

Yeah the red seems to be the more popular choice, I've been leaning towards it over the green. A black would be a solid choice for a 2.3 build as you said. Are you 2.0 now? Appreciate you chiming in.
After doing some more thinking, I'm gonna go with a Red UHF with the MHI housing. I'd like to get some data out there for this turbo with the UHF wheel as there is at least a few threads for the Green UHF. Still not sure on 2.0 or 2.2, I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Curious how it will behave compared to a standard Red, will be cool to see the differences in the graphs. I will start a thread once I get everything I need, probably in the next few months. Thank you guys for your insight!
If I remember the graphs right, the R2s should spool better than the S2s? But this is all from memory so I'm not 100% sure.
Seems to be no real good data out there on the topic. GSC originally said when they first came out that they did spool better. When I contacted them before the build they said, “Quickest spool S2, most power would be the R2.”
When I sent my head into headgames to get it pocket ported they also recommend the S2s for the quickest spool.
I went with the R2s because I want to try and get the most power possible on this setup and see what happens with the spool. My friend did the R2s in his Evo 8 2.4LR with a Precision 6870 and the spool wasn’t bad.
I am on a 2.0L Long rod. I had big dreams to make gobs of power. Now I am not waiting to just keep throwing money at the car. I am already pushing this past the point I should of. 2.2 or 2.3 with a billet crank would be such a fun set up.
I am adding more fuel so maybe that can help with spool up but most likely not, but for down low the black is a little more laggy then I thought.
