Post Head evo 7 on shortblock evo 9

Hello everyone,

I own a Lancer Evolution 7 and need to replace my 4G63 engine block. I’m currently considering the Evo 9 shortblock (part number 1000B075), as it’s more readily available. I’ve read that this block has specific oil passages for MIVEC, which are not present on Evo 4 to 8, and that these passages need to be blocked off for compatibility.

Sorry if this topic has already been discussed, but I haven’t fully understood it yet. If you have any photos, that would be really helpful.

I’m looking for feedback and experiences with this swap:
  • Which threaded plugs or block-off plates do you recommend to properly seal these oil passages?
  • Should I use an Evo 7 or Evo 9 head gasket for this setup?
  • Are there any other specific points to watch out for when installing this block in an Evo 7?
  • Any tips or advice to ensure reliability?
Thanks in advance for your input and feedback!

Not sure if you saw this thread but I'm pretty sure this addresses what you're trying to do:
